Same thing happened to me, one egg and then nothing for two weeks. At the time, the coop was going through MAJOR renovations and the temperatures were in the 90s everyday. No one was happy, including me!
So, I made the chickens as comfortable as possible during the reno, added two box fans to...
My little BO did the same thing a few weeks ago. She actually laid her first egg next to my hand! She’d been acting odd, so I lightly massaged her wings for a few minutes (she loves it) and out popped an egg. She was instantly cured!
Y’all are great! Thank you for the vote of confidence. I’ll put my thoughts on paper and share it with the tool wielding peeps in charge. Surely, nothing can get lost in translation that way.
Wish me luck!!
Lesson learned.. I hired a different guy! I’m guessing the placement of the pop door and the walkway was built around the placement of the nesting boxes.
I added a smaller door at ground level for the flock to use when they were chicks.
As for the staggered roosts... I found a picture...

Yeah.. not sure how the walkway “thing” came to be. It’ll come down this weekend when the roosts are built.
Shavings? It’s bedding we use in the horse stalls. The coop was built in...
Thank you for taking time to help me. Good to know the hen ratio to available nesting boxes. The poop hammock is a good idea too! I’ll look into how much room I have when we start measuring for placement of the roosting bars. I still have a lot of reading to do before improvements start. Thanks...
My husband hired a guy to build out part of our shavings barn for 8 chicks he bought in May. I love the set up, but it’s become obvious the coop doesn’t meet the needs of our little flock.
Pic 1 shows one side of the coop, the other side is identical with 8 nesting boxes in total.
Pic 2...
I’m so happy I found this group! Being a new chicken momma I have so many questions.
Our little flock consists of seven hens, and as of this weekend, a rooster. One of our silkies found his voice ~ I’m so proud of him.
We purchased a small farm north of Atlanta last year and love it!
I have so...
