    Chicken math is calling!

😬I ordered 20 chicks that arrived 2/28. 20 was more than I wanted but due to shipping minimums that’s what I ended up with. So to be responsible I sold a few to my neighbor(this was agreed upon at time of order) and then after that had a coworker purchase some. Well chicken math hit my coworker...

Is this normal egg color variation?

I THINK I only have one marans chicken but I get both the plain dark eggs and the speckled dark eggs-not on the same day. Is it normal for the same bird to fluctuate day to day on this much speckling?

Have I found the perfect litter?

Ok hear me out: We are always striving to find a litter that is absorbent, soft and well insulating to keep our birds warm in the winter. Well this “product” comes naturally made specifically for being soft and warm. May I present…..down bedding!!! 😆

    This puffball needs a name

She needs a name, but nothing is really sticking to her very well. I prefer to use human like names, and there is already a Kevin (orange cat) in the house and I’d like the names to sound good together. This poll contains some suggestions I’ve gotten, but feel free to add suggestions if you feel...

    Errr Merrr Gerrrrrddddd!!!!

I have the bestest husband! I started fostering kittens for the local shelter this spring and I went a little crazy and have had 4 separate groups pretty much back to back come stay with us until they reached adoptable ages. My husband and I decided we should take a little break from fostering...

    What are these?

Any idea on the breed of these birds? They came from a mixed bin. I believe they are laying dark brown eggs (pictured)-my spring pullets are just starting to lay and I haven’t 100% identified who is laying which egg yet. They have straight combs and feathered feet. I believe the dark eggs...

    She has huge earlobes

Any idea what breed she is? She’s about two years old and this is the first time I noticed how huge her earlobes are. I believe she lays a brown egg.

Foster cat is a conspiracy theorist-help!

I think this little lady lacks all brain cells. I am fostering her and her 5 babies for the lincoln county humane society in Wi. A week after bringing her home i got the lovely surprise of finding out she had tapeworms that were not cleared from her first dewormer. As she is terrified of all...

    What could I expect?

I am debating hatching eggs in the spring. I currently have a mixed flock with one white leghorn rooster and one white leghorn/barred rock? Rooster (he is gray with ghost barring, dad was a leghorn mom unknown) What type/color chicks could I expect from the mixed rooster? He is the only nonwhite...

From Hoovers but were in a mixed bin. Breed?

Any idea on the breed of these two? The store I got them from as chicks said they came from Hoovers but they ordered all the mixed variety groups and then put all of those together in one bin🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️. They are both pullets, one may have just started laying (passes the pelvic bone check) but I...

One of my hens is MIA

At lock up time tonight one of my barred rock girls did not make it home. ( they free range every afternoon/evening when we are home, and in the mornings or when we are gone if they decide to be ambitious enough to escape the run- a few are more determined than the rest) Anyway, I have been...

What color would call these legs?

She is a leghorn mix. I am unsure of who her mother is as I have no other chickens with this color legs. Would this be considered slate? My previous EEs had slate legs but they were much darker and did not have the pinkish hue to the bottoms.

Any guesses on what breeds I grabbed from the assorted bin today? I’m told they are from the different assorted varieties from Hoover’s.

    Feathered leg question

I have only ever owned clean legged chickens. This spring I hatched a bunch that were fathered by a rose combed white leghorn and I just noticed a couple have started to develop small feathers on their legs and feet. So my question is: are feathered feet a recessive trait? How would all clean...

Top beak split all the way to the nostril

I worked 43 hours in the last three days and when I finally was able to tuck my chickens in tonight I noticed this young one with her beak split all the way to the nostril. I don’t know when it happened in the last three days(teens were in charge of watching them🙄) and it was already dark when I...
