    Wyandottes and Easter Eggers

I just got some 2 EE and 2 Wyandotte chicks hoping to add to my miniature flock of 2 hens I currently have. My 2 gals are low drama and pretty quiet. I am hoping my chicks will be the same. However, I realized after I brought the Wyandottes home and started reading about my breeds again (I...

    What’s wrong with my hen?

Aw, man. Thanks for your response. So it sounds like she probably won’t lay again, and will continue to have reproductive problems, huh? That’s disheartening. She’s my best layer, she would lay jumbo eggs every time! She’s been a great chicken with a fun personality. I’ve not had the best...

    What’s wrong with my hen?

My gal Jane is having a rough time and I’m worried I might lose her. A couple of weeks ago I noticed she had egg shell and a pink mass hanging out of her vent. So I pulled the remaining eggshell out, cleaned her up and pushed her vent back in. I also gave her some extra calcium and a warm...

Chicken dead with puffy crop and purpled wattle and comb.

Thank you. I really hope she didn’t suffer. I’m still a newbie when it comes to chicken care. I’ve not even had my girls for a year yet. I guess some loss is part of the learning process. But I hate to think I caused her pain and death. :’(

Chicken dead with puffy crop and purpled wattle and comb.

Hi folks. I’m hoping to get some help finding out what my Priscilla gal died of today. I’m feeling pretty bad that it's my fault she passed and I’m hoping she didn’t suffer. :( So, this morning around 10 I was rushing around getting my crew of 5 kiddos out the door to piano lessons and saw...

Raccoon attack, really bad neck injuries

Just thought I’d let you all know the vet thinks they both should recover well, and gave us some meds to help with pain, and antibiotics for infection. Both my gals are eating and drinking and defecating like usual. They hate having their wounds flushed, and don’t enjoy being forced their...

Raccoon attack, really bad neck injuries

I’m not sure how to wrap it. I probably need gauze, which I don’t have and can’t get until later. We’ll see what the vet says. Thank you. :)

Raccoon attack, really bad neck injuries

Yeah, I’m worried, but she just laid an egg, and has been eating and drinking more. Maybe these things mean she can get through this? Anxiously waiting our visit with the vet this afternoon.

Raccoon attack, really bad neck injuries

Yeah, we’ve definitely been thinking about this. My daughter’s bunny died the night before (no injury we could see, we think he died of fright), and I’m sure this raccoon caused that heartache as well.

Raccoon attack, really bad neck injuries

I found a vet that sees chickens, and we’re going to take in Jane this afternoon. I think Priscilla (my Barred Rock)will be fine, her injury isn’t as deep. We’ll just keep it clean. My poor, poor chickens.

That tendon thing on the side moves when she moves her beak/swallows. Can she recover from this?

Raccoon attack, really bad neck injuries

Thanks, y’all! They were drinking a little and eating some mealworms this morning. I flushed out their wounds again, which they didn’t like. Gave them more aspirin water and I tried to put on some antibacterial ointment. It was kinda hard to on Jane (my Rhode Island Red) because her wound is...

Sorry these are such poor pictures, I didn’t want to bother them to let them rest. I’ll take better ones tomorrow.

Raccoon attack, really bad neck injuries

Hey guys. I’m a newbie chicken owner, my gals have been with me for about 2 months. Tonight a raccoon killed 1 and badly injured 2 of my girls. We usually remember to close up the coop, but tonight was the unfortunate night we forgot. Anyway, we’re really sad, and I’m not sure how to help my...
