    Dead Rooster !

I have 2 roosters, a golden sea bright bantam rooster as well as a white leghorn rooster. My boys crow the entire night! when they hear any noise, or they see any light, they WILL crow! they are trying to protect their Ladies! Lights from passing cars 1/2 mile up the hill shine right into the...

Leg Band Wound - Time to heal?

I found my Biscuit today limping in the yard, I went to pick her up and seen that the sharp point of the plastic leg band has poked into her leg flesh. Today is the first time I noticed her limping. Checking it out I found that it had become infected. I cut off the band, and as soon as I removed...

Fermented Feed-Is it really a superfood?

I am feeding all together 21 chickens. I have 3 roos, and 17 chickens. I have my 4 week old chickens and my 7 growers. My 4 week brood eats a 25lb. Bag in 2-1/2 to three weeks. They are kept during the frost in my shed until their feathers are fully developed. The growers are eating at the...

Fermented Feed-Is it really a superfood?

I went to southern states farm supply store and talked to a chicken lover/Farmer there, and he suggested to keep my growers on the starter feed ( since they go crazy over it) and mix it half and half with layer crumble since they are old enough for egg laying. He said I can also feed that mix to...

Fermented Feed-Is it really a superfood?

I don't know what it is about the scratch and peck that my growers do not like, but they still go ravenously over the starter feed! My 3-1/2 week old chicks like the scratch and peck fine...enough to pull out ones hair...lol

Worked on a farm previously, now I am trying to raise chickens on my own.

I grew up with my neighbors leghorns in Germany, and they ARE beautiful. My two leghorn chickens tend to be skiddish. Lazarus Leaf, I have a video of him in my arms swaying back and forth (with my help) to my little made up song. We crow together at 4:30 am every morning. I really love the dude...

Fermented Feed-Is it really a superfood?

I would like to know that answer as well. My chickens don't seem to like the "scratch and peck" feed they waste alot of it. And I am trying to find one without corn or soy, but have no luck finding any. The young chicks seem to like it well, but they are too young to eat grower feed, only 3-1/2...

I Will it help if I add about 1" strip of chicken wire to the top of the fence at a slight angle? All the other chickens stay in their fenced area. I have even trimmed their wing feathers to discourage flying. Lux is determined to get to the other side. I read on the forum that Hawks will come...

I have 6 chickens, and one rooster. The chickens are almost ready to lay their first egg. I would have lost one of my chickens were it not for my rooster creating a lot of ruckus! Lux ( the name of that white leghorn chicken), always has a habit of flying over the fence. I was inside, so I...
