    Beans and pasta, oh my!

Beans and any other grain together make a complete protein. Pasta is made from wheat, a grain. All the better if you use whole grain pasta, or cooked whole grain or cracked wheat kernels, corn, any grain. Be sure to provide calcium in the form of crushed shell, even egg shells cleaned and...

    What animal dug this burrow?

Those things are nasty. Find an exterminator, if you can, one with rat terriers. They are the most humane method. I heard that in one year a pair of rats can become 2000. You don't want to mess around!!

    Questions for Woods-type Coop-ers

Wow, good to know it works up there. I would start in spring each year. We're pretty sandy here so drainage shouldn't be a problem, especially with the Woods design. Hardware cloth skirt or border in combination with railroad ties for the foundation is what I was hoping would suffice. I was also...

    Questions for Woods-type Coop-ers

Thank you! Yes, hardware cloth. And treated lumber, thanks - hadn't thought of that. We may use railroad ties for perimeter foundation too. We don't have a lot of vegetation here so am also thinking of deep litter in the run. Brrr, where you are! We're supposed to be Z6, but not last night! It...

    Calling All Knitters

I knit, for about 12 years now. Not prolific, but I like knitting. Ravelry really helped me advance in my technique repertoire, as did Elizabeth Zimmermann's book "Knitting without Tears." Got me over that initial fear of failure. After all, it's just yarn! I knit lace mostly, but there's...

    Questions for Woods-type Coop-ers

I have the book, love the concept, and have settled on 10 x 16 size. But I have a few questions. First, why is it suggested to have a screen on the monitor windows that opens inward? Second, anyone using the dirt floor with deep litter method? How's it working? I'm thinking it would provide a...

Woods Style Open air coop - Operating Instructions??

Hope I'm not too late to the party! If you have the book, look on pg. 41 under "Side Elevation and Ground Plan." If you don't have the book, it's available online, and it's in the public domain. Should be able to find it easily. Good luck!

Thanks , neighbor! We have game cameras around, plus a little video system, and we have quite a collection of wildlife pics. I have seen 2 mountain lions, walking through our place, broad daylight, and we see many tracks, esp. after a snow! It's amazing.
