    Eggs and my dog?

A friend of mine told me that he used to put a raw egg on his dog's food every morning. Are the risks of eating raw egg the same for dogs as for humans. In addition, what is everyone's opinion of eating raw eggs. And are the risks greater with my eggs, or the ones that are store bought.

They stopped laying, what is going on??

It took just two days of light in the coop and I began getting eggs agin. Just two rather than the four to five I'm used to, but I'm sure they are on the way back.

    Egg sanitizing

I wipe mine off with my hands under some water just befor I carck them open. If they are real dirty I'll clean them before I put them in the carton. Some say they don't last that long if they are cleaned but others don't buy into that theory. I suggust you do what YOU think is best.

My RIR, and barred rocks didn't begin laying until they were eight months. I hope you don't have to wait as long too.

    Egg production gone to pot!

My six hens quit laying about a week ago. I figure, thanks to the advise of some other members, that it is the short days. I finished gettin' some electricity to the coop today and I got a light on a timer. I was told that 12-14 hours of ligt a day is necessary so I guess I'll just wait and...

They stopped laying, what is going on??

Since my six hens began laying in June egg production has been stedadly increasing to a peak of five a day on average just two weeks ago. Over the past week i've been getting fewer and fewer and over the past two days they have layed none. Two weeks ago I bought more food, but I accedently...

    Refrigeration???

Thanks for all the replies. I also like to backpack and they sell those little hard egg holders. I always wonderd how long people would carry the eggs on the trail before they eat them. I've also heard about once cold they must stay cold. Anybody but Zenbirder and I heard of that?????????

    Winter water

Thanks for all the info on the water, some good ideas and I'll keep brainstorming. I haven't ran my electricity yet, but I plan on running underground wire to the coop, or regular 110 wire through some conduit. For heat in the coop I think I may put in two bulbs, like I use for my reptiles...

    Strange behavior

Thanks everybody, I think it was the heat. By the end of the day they were all kind of acting the same. Wings out and laying around. They go plenty of water, and by the evening they were all acting normal, well... normal for a chicken that is.

    Winter water

Here in Pittsburgh it is 90 degrees today, so this feels like an odd question. This is my first year rasing chickens. Right now for water I just use a five gallon bucket in a planter base, outside the coop for water. I want to be a little proactive and am looking for suggustions for the...

    Strange behavior

One of my Barred Rocks, 6mo old now, has been laying around all day. She is kind of puffing out her feathers and keeping one of her wings out a little. When she does walk she takes very short step and keeps stepping on her own feet as she walks. When she is laying she is still pecking at the...

    runny poop

My chicks are 6 weeks old. I've noticed this morning that suddenly their poop, I think all of them, is very watery. Just curious if I should worry, or give it a few days to see if the problem takes care of itself.

    first coop questions

All hens. Roosters are agains the zoning laws. I have two Rhode Island Reds, Two barred Rocks, and Two Black Sex Links. I actually only wanted four or five, but ordered a few more for fear of some death in shipment, but all my chicks arrived and are doing well so far. They are still in the...
