Roo or hen? Surprise from hubby.

My husband brought me a surprise from the flea market. He was told it is a hen but I think it looks like a roo with the saddle feathers. It does have a fluffy butt. I only have hens so I don't have the experience to tell. No crow yet. Thanks for your help. Best pictures I could get.

How much feed do 6 hens eat a day?

I am wondering how much feed 6 hens usually eat? I don't think my girls are eating enough. I have it available all the time and refresh daily. I have cut back on treats so they will eat the feed because I know they need the balanced nutrition. I just want them to be healthy. Thanks.

    Warning-close coop early

I have seen this posted before but am posting as a reminder because of my close call. Last night I went to lock the coop and it had been dark for about 30 minutes already. On my way out I heard an awful noise and ran out to the coop. Terrified chicken sound is terrible. Chickens were...

Is it wrong to isloate one chicken so the others can eat?

The top hen won't let a couple of my hens eat. Atleast, not much. Yesterday I put her in the coop for a couple of hours to let them eat in peace. I don't want to mess with the pecking order but will that interfere too much? Thanks.

I am curious if anyone else forages weeds/plants for their chickens? I have noticed lots of edible weeds/plants on the roadside and in different places. I have a city backyard with a limited number of weeds and the thought crosses my mind to stop and pick some of the roadside "weeds" for my...
