Definitly need to add Leghorns and Rhode Island Red's to that list. Big chicken does not always mean big egg. My leghorns are the smallest breed I have but lay the largest egg! My Blue Copper Marans lay jumbo eggs too.

If the bloodlines came from Paul Smith stock then you have some great show quailty pure Ameraucanas. I got 16 blues, 4 black and 4 wheatens from him last year. They are amazing!
Your are right, IT GOES BY FAST!
I set 42 eggs on the 23rd. This will be my 3rd hatch. The 1st hatch was a success with 85%. The 2nd hatch was a failure at 30% which I contribute to humidity dropping below 20% and temp to 95 degrees on day 12 after not shutting the lid correctly. I do have a...
I had 2 leghorns that laid their first egg at 19 weeks! RIR's were right behind them at 21 weeks. BO's came in third at 24 weeks. My EE's started at 25 weeks. I started them on layer pellets at 18 weeks. Unfortunatly they are going through their first molt at the same time!!!! Getting 2 eggs...
It makes sense that the shorter days triggered their first molt. I have 5 different breeds and they are all going through the same thing! I hope they get over it quick. They need to earn their keep!
I have the same situation. I went from 18/day to 2/day. I did notice there are alot more feathers in the coop and run but they don't look too bad. If might be their first molt. I think maybe the weather change AND shorter days has affected them.

I believe the muffs and beard are incomplete dominate ; if I'm correct then if you don't see it the gene isn't there and those crosses will be clean faced .
I think it *might* mean they only have one beard gene- so your chances are 1 in 4 of having a beard, but it would probably be a...
I just found out my clean faced Blue Ameraucana (EE) is a rooster! I know that I will not use for my breeding program but I was wondering if breeding him to my leghorns or RIR will I get bearded EE's? Basically do they still carry the muff/beard gene?
