We live in Maine, when should we allow a broody hen to hatch chicks?

    New coop ventilation.

We already did metal roofing. Now im reading another thread about soneone having issues. Ugh... might need to add insulation to keep the warmer air in the coop from hitting the metal roof.

Best place to buy hardware cloth?

I plan to use hardware cloth for my coop and run per most peoples suggestion for safety. What is the best source for buying? It will pretty expensive I know, but I feel it's worth it for sure. Where have you found the best deal, Tractor Supply, Lowes, online etc? Thank you!

The darn rainy weather has caused a huge set back in moving the shed. They will have a lovely large coop within about 3 weeks I hope. I know the...

    Moving chicks to outside brooder?

Daytime temps 70, night time lows 45 to 55. No rain will get in, wind would be minimal. Brooder is an old 4 x 10 utility cart. Inside brooder is 4 feet with a door I can open to let them "out" into the other 4 feet which is covered with hardware cloth. I would not let them out for another month...

    Hello from Maine!

I am brand new. I've been doing a lot of reading and research. I want good layers and usually "friendly" chickens as I have grandchildren. I know handling them as chicks makes them friendly and used to people. So I thought I would start with 4 each of Plymouth Rock, Sex Linked, Leghorn, Buff...
