I have six two year old hens.
My silver laced wyandotte has always been on the small side but she is very strong and seems healthy beside the poo.
Her butt is always leaking a chalky gritty, crusty, watery poo.
Her poor butt is always red where she seems to be trying to pull out her poo...
It's a centepede-like worm or larvae? Did it hatch there or did it come out of my hen??
Never seen this before. Was in the coop/poop deck under the nesting bar..
Hi Friends! I have a baby Coturnix who is scuttling around, won't stand up. He was the first to pip and the last to hatch so I thought maybe he was just tired, 24 hours later, still not standing. Getting around, seems alert eating and drinking, seems to be doing better... but not standing...
My boyfriend bought me an incubator for my birthday.
I ordered 24 Coturnix eggs from a seller in Texas to be shipped to California about a month ago.
Due to everything that's going on, the seller let me know that the eggs would be very delayed. I was checking my mail and email daily for...
Hi again,
Another paranoid question from the new girl.
I treated my hens with poultry dust two months ago. I don't even really know if they had mites/lice, they might have just been molting but I was sure they were going to die... They definitely molted after that....and..at the exact...
First year with six chickens I raised from babes in February. This is Gracie the blue Wyandotte, she seems to be the first to have any kind of problem, thankfully she's also the most cooperative...
She's otherwise healthy and even laid an egg today. Yesterday I noticed the closed eye and...
Curious what you make of this?
It almost looks like raised/broken tiny pieces of shell and not speckles.
I think this is from a Wyandotte born this Spring. She started laying in July.
Seems fine and healthy but produces eggs that look like this from time to time.
Hens have access to...
New to chickens. My 5.5 month old Cuckoo Marans free range while I'm at work. Noticed a week or so ago that her comb looked dirty so tried to clean and take a closer look tonight. Nothing seemed to come off. She seems fine otherwise. Just wondering if this looks okay or if I should be taking...
I located a few posts about this but didn't find an answer.
First time with chickens and my 6 hens are 21 weeks old. Two have started laying. Eggs I've received are 1) dark brown 2) brown speckled and I'm assuming these are from the Marans or Wyandotte.
So safe to say my Easter Egger has not...
It could be my imagination.
This is my first flock. They are now about 20 weeks old and a few of them are starting to lay. Normal inconsistency with size, etc.
They free range for at least 6 hours a day.
There are tons of tomatoes and wild flowers in my yard. Lots of weeds but not a...
First timer with six three month old pullets.
I don't know when and if they will ever take to this watering thing...
I purchased this on eBay. I read that sometimes young chicken's beak's aren't big enough to trip the valve. I fill it up. They drink it but can't figure out how to refill...

Hello!
First timer with six 3 month pullets (2 Wyandotte, 2 Cuckoo Maran, 2 EE) ...wondering about my egg hutch design...
I have a 3 gang egg hutch, each compartment is about 10 inches wide. It's currently blocked off.
Most of what I've read says 12 inch is ideal and some breeds may even...
My grandparents raised chickens when I was a child but I'd neverkept birds myself.
I've been obsessively researching chicken keeping for over a year, since I became interested in chickens for eggs and fertilizer.
I purchased my first six chicks from a local feed store this spring. I think...
My six 8-week old chicks have been living outside for a few weeks with no problem.
I continued to supply heat because they seemed to huddle under the lamp on the roost. And we've had some nights in the high 40's and we don't have an enclosed hen house.
But now I'm wondering if they still...
