I am concerned about a rooster I have...ever since he was a chick he has been a little hellion, but recently he has been very aggressive towards the hens. The chickens are all 16 weeks, there is a black australorp, a barred rock, and 3 EE's (2 are roos). The dominant rooster is very well...
I was just reading the forums and realized how crafty raccoons are! It's crazy! But anyways...I just got my 8 week olds out into the coop, which is an 8'x10' and about 1 foot off the ground. The door is enormous and we have a temporary latch on it (need to go to the hardware store!), but I am...
Now I am just wondering, my chick has little pads (they almost look like suction pads) on the bottoms of her feet. There is no scab or scarring and she has been acting completely normal and doesn't act at all like her feet bother her. So could it be bumblefoot, or are her feet just "deformed"?
TSC had some red sex links that I was very interested in getting--some were red, others were buff-colored. So my question is, which is the male and which is the female? How do I know?
I went to TSC today to get some grit for my 6 week old chicks. An employee advised me on the crushed granite, but I'm wondering if it's too large? I want to start feeding treats soon and I need to make sure they have grit...but is this too large for them? or does it matter? any input would...
I hope this can help you gauge the age
Mine at 3 weeks:
At 5 1/2:
And if it is in fact a roo (which is does look like...) it's body size may be larger.
Based on the feathering, he looks to be about 4 weeks (but I'm not an expert, lol)
My chick was doing the same thing a couple of weeks ago...she was all perky and then suddenly she was just laying there, breathing with her beak open. I just kept my eye on her and made sure she had plenty of water. The next day she was fine...I still don't know why she did that...the others...
I have 4 - 5 1/2 week old chicks and 1- 4 1/2 week old. I am really wanting to get some more (I know, I'm becoming addicted already!). But would it be alright to combine these chicks with 2 to 3 week old chicks? Or would that be a problem? I know combining older chickens with chicks can be a...
I bought them from a backyard breeder who hatched them from eggs she got from a breeder I believe? But I love them, they're 5 1/2 weeks now and beautiful!
I have 3 chicks that were sold to me as Araucanas...but I don't know if they actually are or if they are EE? They are beautiful and I love them either way, just wondering?
They are a little older now, but here they are at about 3-4 weeks
The two on the left and the one hiding in the very back
My chicks are 5 1/2 weeks and almost all (except for my little australorp) have lost almost all of their downy feathers and have grown into their "big girl" feathers...except for the australorp. I believe she's a week younger than the rest and she is still quite fuzzy (her wings and tail are...
She's doing just fine today, thank you for asking I saw her "go" earlier and it was just normal poo, nothing strange about it--no blood in it or after...maybe it was indeed just intestinal lining? The other chicks seem just fine as well. But I may go to the feed store and purchase some...
Hi!
I recently obtained 5 beautiful baby chicks and they have all been doing very well. I have had them for 3 1/2 weeks (they're 5 1/2 weeks now). However, today I noticed my Dominecker chick had a bowel movement that was very runny (but it looked more like pee...which I suppose is possible...
