    intro

Our first year of broody momma's and hatching. Busy here too. But so fun! We had 1 broody hen (Claire) who started after we lost our rooster. She even stole eggs. We felt sorry for her so made her a pen and gave her a few of Pearl's eggs (due today) and a few duck eggs that our duck stopped...

    Are these Khaki Campbells?

I would love to have some runners! So I hope you are right. Have you heard of mix ups? Tractor supply here doesn't even sell runners. Of course maybe their hatchery does...

    Are these Khaki Campbells?

We purchased these 4 khaki Campbells on Mother's day. At that time they looked very similar. As they have grown however, 2 look like khakis but 2 are noticeably different. 1 has turned more and more grey and 1 is smaller, darker and stands taller. The little one looks like a runner to me. Are...

    Moving broody hen

It had only been a couple days in the new spot. Just went to check her and found a dead chick laying on the edge of the nest box. Kind of bloody. Not sure what happened. Poor baby. But on the bright side they appear to have developed. No others seem to be broken. Thx for the advice!

    Moving broody hen

Last week while I was at work my broody hen decided to move back to the coop. I had moved her out of her nest box to a private fenced area. I have no idea how she got out. But she did and moved back. I found her eggs cold. They could have left for 5 hours. I quickly put the eggs under her and...

    Separate broody hen?

Thank you for the advice. I am also a worrier and noticed this morning 2 more are broody. Gonna move her to her own little spot. It is adjacent to the main coop/pen so hopefully will help with rejoining the rest of the flock.

    Separate broody hen?

I have a broody hen for the first time. I had read that she should be separated. So we built her a pen and little shelter. I have since read that I don't need to. She has been sitting almost 2 weeks. Eggs are marked, etc. What is the best thing to do?

    Introducing new ducklings.

They are so fun to watch. My mallard mix duckling dives and goes all the way around the pool before coming back up. Never thought I would be so in love with chickens and ducks! What the flock!?! Lol

    Introducing new ducklings.

So apparently "chicken math" doesn't apply just to chickens. It also applies to ducks! We recently were gifted a couple ducklings in addition to the 4 pekins babies we just bought. Realizing we had a duck run plenty big enough for a few more friends, I made the mistake of going online! So now we...

Lol, I hate to admit it but I'm starting to agree! 22 chickens might not belong in the living room.

    New chicken momma

Hello, I am new to raising chickens. I currently have 22 chicks. 18 ordered from Cackle Hatchery and 4 I couldn't resist (baby chicks are too cute and I just couldn't wait for my delivery! Chicken math is hard and a real thing! Lol) at tractor supply. I am surprised by how friendly and funny...
