I use ceramic eggs for my girls nest eggs and went out today and found that something (possum or coon) thought it had a treat last night. It destroyed my nest egg. 😫 I'm tired of the pests.
This is the worse it's EVER been around here. I was raised here and EVERYBODY free-ranged back then. I NEVER lost a bird to aerial predators back then.
Wow! The majority of my birds taken were Easter eggers. There were some barred rock, buff orpington, one black Australorp too. The leghorns, the rir's, and red rangers have made it
This may be the case with the quail I once had.
I had bought ten quail to start raising for eggs and meat. I ended up trading for about thirty more. I went through and selected my males that I wanted to keep for breeding stock and processed the rest (kept all the hens).
They began laying and I...
I chose the hawk simply because they have less conscience about nabbing your birds. I've been right there and have them swoop in and take a chicken. With most other predators there's a season for them and they can legally be dealt with. Here, it's illegal to trap, kill or in any way harm them...
Thank God I found this. Thank you all for your help. I've been trying to get my eggs to peel like the store bought ones for about a week. I had all but given up. I couldn't do that though. I love boiled eggs.
Again, thanks for the info.
So the CDs work? I had an older farmer tell me that I need to kill that hawk and hang it from a tree. I told him, "if you get him, feel free to hang it."
