Thanks! Just took this pic today and noticed that the light winged ones had two stripes on their back (under the wings) and that the red tipped winged ones only had one strip down the spine, if they had a stripe at all.
Was thinking I had maybe figured it out finally. :p
Hey all!
Got a small group of baby pullets, both orpingtons and isa browns.
The black orps are easy to ID, but the lighter colored ones I'm lost on!
I've looked up pictures of both, but that didn't help much. :P
Anyone have any tips on telling orps from browns?
I'd appreciate it, because I...
I was thinking leaving at least part of the back wall open would be better for ventilation, or no? Air flow better than just one wall of mesh. But like I said, never built one before. Lol
I actually have roosts and nesting boxes already, even though they won’t be laying/needing the boxes for...
First batch of little ones is 6 in count.
Dimensions from initial post are “Lowest part of the leanto is about 6' tall, tallest is 8.5' I think. It's also about 6.5' wide, and about 9' deep”. Tall enough that I had thought of doing a second floor somehow, but wasn’t sure.
Run size is pretty...
I’ve done exstensive research, that’s all I said. Came asking for coop ideas, not chicken care tips (like keeping them dry), so I figured I’d make that clear upfront. But all it did was make you somehow think I was being a pain, so awesome.
You talked about a wood floor, when my post said...
Maybe I did, but my original message was misread and seemingly doubted. So it came across with a bit of a patronizing tone. :)
I don’t believe any questions they asked revealed any new info, aside from my nonexistent plans. And the bit about flooding, which wasn’t -really- needed when I said...
Just because I know what my babies need, doesn't mean I'm a master designer. :p I have the knowledge, but no experience doing this, so I figured I'd ask for ideas. PLUS, someone might have a better way of doing it that suits my babies better than anything I could think of. :)
Ventilation is the...
Hello all!
Looking to turn this leanto into a coop!
Babies still have a month+ depending on which batch, so I have time, but I am STUMPED on how to design it!
I know all about ventilation; avoiding direct elements; nesting boxes; roosts; protection from predators (-maybe- raccoons, about it...
And after googling salmon faverolles, all I can say is, WOW!
The hens are pretty, but those roosters! GORGEOUS!
Shhh, I work third shift, have three kids, am slightly dyslexic, and I got hit by some chicken math! Be nice! :lau
Thanks! They were way too cute, and different than what I had, to pass up! Haha!
HAHAHA! When the kids and I left, we said "We shouldn't have gone in! We need to stay away!" And the chick days still have a month left! (If I don't buy them all out....) :lau
OH! Please tell me! I was just...
I just started keeping chickens for the first time personally a short while ago. Started with 2 barred rock pullets and 4 straight run "black asians".
So far it looks like I managed to end up with only one cockerel out of the 4 straight run, so go me! :D
Today the kids & I decided to stop by...
As requested, some pictures of my wee ones. Figured I'd take some as I went to switch out their water. Again. Silly babes and flitting bedding into their waterer. lol
A few of the cockerel, looking MUCH more roo than a few days ago. :P
The waddles and colors are more obvious in person, but I'm...
I work third shift, so I’m actually about to sleep. But I’ll get some pics of them later today!
Lol he definitely has the “bubble” when I did the vent check. He’s also bigger than the others with the bigger comb, hence my suspicious eyeing. xD
Babies just turned two weeks old, all 6 looked like pullets a few days ago (mostly), but I had my eyes on one.
The comb was bigger, but no pink/red to it, no waddles, and vent check was iffy as baby was squiggly.
Wellllll, today I checked again.
Waddles are coming in and colored, and the vent...
