Rooster hasn't eaten in Two Days

Up until yesterday morning, Red was completely fine. We spend a LOT of time with him, almost more time with him than the dog. I pick him up everyday for a few minutes, give him lots of treats. If i could potty train him, I would let him stay in the house. It's been about two months since the...

Rooster hasn't eaten in Two Days

I have a 2.5 year old Rooster who, up until Sunday night, seemed absolutely fine. Yesterday when he was let out of his cage, he just walked out, not his usual "rearing to go" self. He walked over to our empty coop (we no longer have hens due to a Bear and nobody wanted my sweet boy), parked...

Barred Rock with "Blown Out" Vent

I have a Barred Rock that appears to have "blown out" her vent, for lack of better words. I don't know if she tried to lay too large an egg, or what may have happened. She seems to act normal and eats, her rear is just a mess. Are there any suggestions as to what I should do? Thank you.

4 day old chick- gut bulge under vent- please advise

Do you have any pictures? I had a baby chick that had a huge bulge under his vent. It turned out that he was "going" but the poo wasn't coming out of his body. 8 or 9 q-tips full of poo removed by the vet and a few days he was perfectly fine. He was a special boy and I lost him this past January.

Cock Fight - Ameraucana Roo w/ face injuries - suggestions please

I had a RIR hen that got a small growth on her eye. The vet snipped it off and put bacitracin or neosporin on it. (Sorry for the poor spelling!). Best wishes, Keri

    Naughty rooster, mk II

I have 5 roos. I absolutely love them all. I don't have a problem with a single one of them, but my fiance has trouble with one of them. I think my fiance gets nasty with the roo instead of being kind which I think is the problem. I try and hold all the roos when I go in the coop, or at...

    What rooster should I have?

I have a mix of RIR and New Hampshire Roos....My head roo 'Big Red' is incredible and extremely protective of the flock AND myself and fiance. I have one roo who doesn't like my fiance for some reason and if the bad boy starts to come hear him, Big Red jumps between them and chases the other roo...

Lets talk about our current broodies :) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a Rhode Island or New Hampshire 'Mama' (not quite sure what she is - not a brick red, but not very orangy either) sitting on her 1st batch of eggs. At one point she had 15 eggs, but I stole some as I don't want to double my flock. She has about 5 eggs, but keeps trying to steal more as...

    New to hatching chicks

Hi Everybody, I have a few general questions. I have a hen that has gone back and forth sitting on eggs. She will sit on some for about 6 hours a day and then abandon them (so I take them and put in the fridge for food since it's still quite cold here in the NorthEast). Yesterday and...

    Hen squawking and clucking

I have a Rhode Island Red that I got on April 17 as a few day old chick. For today, she had been squawking and clucking constantly. I have seen her go to the bathroom a few times, but is it possible she's getting ready to lay? She has free range access, but is staying in the coop standing up...

How to add a new hen to current flock?

I just got a new hen on Thursday, as a trade for a Rooster. Shannon is a New Hampshire and was born around Easter. The 2nd night she was here, (well, sometime overnight) she laid an egg, and not an egg since. 1) How should I have introduced her to the rest of the flock? One of my hens around...

    Eye "sty"

I have a RIR hen that I just noticed has a little pinhead size bump on her upper eye lid, the same color as the lid. She doesn't seem to be bothered by it and acts completely normal. Unfortunately, I don't have a way to add a pic. Any suggestions?

New Hampshire and Rhode Island Red Roosters

I have 6 roosters I am hoping to find good homes for. I have New Hampshires and Rhode Island Reds. I got them from Tractor Supply on April 17, so they are approximately 4 months old. Out of 12 chickens, I got 10 roos. I am truly hoping to find good homes where they can be an addition to flock...

    Lola 'the lonely'...

AWWWWW...she is Just Too Cute!!!! You are right, she is peeping when you leave because she is lonely. Is the neighbor going to stay with her while you are camping? Do you have an old stuffed animal or an old sock you can ball up for her to cuddle with? Good luck!

Awwwww. I think they love me!

That is just waaaaay to cute. There is nothing like gaining the love and trust from an animal. I feel like there is nothing better in the world. Enjoy your babies while they are still so small and young.

My two CornishX chickens attacked by the other chickens.

My two CornishX chickens (which I do not plan on eating) have been attacked by the other chickens in their coop. The chicken (s) have ripped out all their feathers from just under the neck all the way to their tails. There is some blood and remaining feather "stumps" in the tail area. All I...
