She had a very nice temperament, was just all around friendly. Would come over to you so you could pick her up, liked to have her feathers stroked while she was eating. And could be pretty comical at times.
A few days ago I decided to dive into all the old photos on my phone and couldn’t help but feel sad when I found these pictures of my late (hatchery bred) Salmon Faverolle- Fluffernutter.
Thought I’d dedicate this little post to her, she was probably the best chicken I’ve ever owned: out of all...
Ooh not sure, but she’s adorable. Could you possibly get a picture of her from the top? Or maybe one closer?
She looks a bit like an EE (Easter-egger) to me, that’s what our EE chicks looked like, but more photos would help. 😊
Honestly they all look like girls to me, except maybe number one. But maybe it’s the position he/she is in that’s giving me roo vibes. They all have pretty pale comb/wattles, which is a good sign if not a for sure way of telling.
If it’s a leghorn it’s could totally be a hen. My white leghorn hen has a huge (and very red) comb + waddles.
Check it’s saddle (the area by the tail- lower back) for long, pointed feathers, as well as its neck for the same pointed feathers. If it has these it’s probably a roo, but if the...
Hello, been awhile since I’ve posted a thread, but our hens are over 2 years old now and we’re considering ordering some baby chicks this spring. 🥳
The thing is, we live in Northern California where the temperature averages from 100-115 degrees in the summer.
I was hoping to get some new breeds...
So, after receiving lots of help from people about what to do with my (way too) broody hen, I have decided to get some day old chicks to stick under her. :wee
Now comes the hard part... deciding what chicks to get!
I have 8 open spots in my coop, and will be getting a single rooster, because...
They get some meal worms as a little treat each day, as well as a generic layer feed, but mostly they jut free range all day, eating grass, bugs, worms, and whatever else they find!
For checking for mites I just lightly lift the feathers?
I’m not the most experienced on caring for duck wounds, but here is another discussion from awhile back that’s is very similar;

Also, poultry will often pretend they are fine, because in the wild acting...
Ah! I took a closer look and noticed that his feathers seem pointed, still leaning towards rooster on Flintoff!
I just love frizzles: they’re adorable <3
Also, have you considered keeping the roosters?
When I had mine he helped keep the hens safe from predators, warning them of danger, and always being on alert.
Shortly after he died some got taken by coyotes...
They’re handy to have around!
