Hen acting strange. Vent looks weird.

We will be treating everybody for mites. Ducks don't get them, right?

Hen acting strange. Vent looks weird.

Very old hen with very young roosters. She seems to not want them anywhere near her. She puffs up her little neck and tells them what for if they get too close.

Hen acting strange. Vent looks weird.

I did not dust her yesterday. I inspected one of our other hens who was staying in the barn yesterday, and sure enough, mites. Mites everywhere. I did not actually find any mites on this hen though.

Hen acting strange. Vent looks weird.

One of our original 12 hens has been acting aggressive toward our roosters, and has been hiding in the barn all day. I picked her up to look at her, since we found some blood in the coop this morning, and her tail looks "angry." Please help us figure out what is going on with our sweet shaniqua.

    9 roosters

Thank you. They are handsome. So far, only the rooster we have had problems with in the past is causing issues.

    Integrating geese and ducks

The chickens are slowly getting the point that they will just be chased back if they cross the road. That grain on the other side sure is enticing though.

    Integrating geese and ducks

We have been chasing chickens out of the road all morning, but the geese and ducks are doing fine.

    Integrating geese and ducks

Our flocks are separated for the night, but we free range during the day, so we will see how tomorrow goes. The geese are very friendly with people and seem to bumble around wherever the ducks in their flock go.

    Integrating geese and ducks

We just got 5 new ducks and 4 geese who have lived together their whole lives and we are trying to integrate them with our flock of ducks who are 1 swedish blue drake, a hen who became broody and never got any ducklings, 1 cayuga drake, and a mom with her 7 babies (6 weeks). Will they settle...

    9 roosters

Here is the only rooster we have ever butchered. It was traumatic for everyone involved.

7 rescue roosters! What are they?!

Hahahaha. They are some sort of mexican fighting chickens... this one is elvis, because he does a little dance when he wants to be pet or when he is picking a fight.

*Just brought home a duckling with no nostrils. PICS*UPDATE pg3*

We also have a little duckling about 31/2 weeks old, we've named Mr. Bill, as his bill is deformed. It seems like a birth defect and the top of his bill is shorter and much thicker. The bottom seems about the same as the others. His little tongue sticks out a bit and he needs water a bit more...

Malformed Bill in 3 week old

One of our 32 new ducklings was born with a bill malformation. He is eating and drinking fine so far, but is slightly runtier than the rest of his flock of 20. His bill seems to be growing with him, it just looks smashed up on the top. Is there anything special we should be doing for our special...
