It's so hard to tell when the chicks are still so young. Based on the pics I looked at on feathersite they all look right except the Marans the First pic which you have said are Jersey's look more like what I would expect a cookoo maran to look like...
I'm pretty new to meaties myself but my research says they are VERY prone to heart attack. Which would be my first guess if I lost 7 in one night. Could something have frightened them?
Mine are in the front room. Like you mentioned the dust can get annoying. But, other then that (and the occasional extra foul dropping) we haven't had any problems. In an honest comparison the six chicks still inside are not half as filthy as one parrot my aunt had. Not to mention what it used...
I've been doing alot of research through posts etc. and there are alot of topics concerning eggs. But not meat. I looked in google and it says there is no withdrawl period and some say you can eat them just fine because it's not actually an antibiotic, others range from 2-4 weeks???? I think...
So I have been avoiding the medicated feed. Because it was my understanding that it can cause an issue with being able to eat your meaties. Well the other day I went to get a new bag of start and grow and all that was available was the medicated. I have about 15 chicks and was told it could be a...
I have one chick in perticulaur that would peck the others until they would bleed, Causing a frency of pecking from everyone.. I started putting triple antibiotic ointment( no pain relief kind) on the wounds.(a little heavy) He(and the other chicks) would peck it once, shake there head and leave...
Is it nessesity... No. It really depends on your set up. I use 2 in chickenwire. However, I put the girls in the coop at night or if I am not going to be home. Also, I have a Large noisy dog in a dog run about 10 feet away from the chicken coop. So I know when there is trouble, And predetors...
My chicks are pretty spoiled. I got sick of leftovers sitting in my fridge. So, I give them lots of goodies, I usually just pour it in. Corn, stuffing, pasta etc. Literally all I do is drain of the extra liquid, add a little grit and toss it in. I also give them worms usally small ones from my...
I broke my arm in 4th grade and there was zero brusing, swelling nothing. it was a clean break of the smaller of the 2 bones. Mine was an obvious break however due to the shape my arm took. But also concider there are nearly 40 bones from the elbow down. Not to mention if he fractured a growth...
Well I saw the nice fancy waterers at the ranch store for about $10 and decided it was to much money, then again Just a plain watering bowl is way to messy. So i took a 44 oz cup from the gas station cut a a little triangle in one side(just smaller than the dish), filled with water and placed it...
For me I keep my smallest chicks on cardboard. This was mainly to make sure they didn't eat the bedding. But when they manage to spill thier food. I take out the bowl and they will eat the start and grow off the cardboard. when most of the food is gone I put the feeder back in. I have my chicks...
My chicks are growing at differant rates as well, But they all seem healthy. So if the growth is the only issue I wouldn't be concerned. It my end up being a Bantam or it might just be a little slower to mature.
I strickly use chicken wire 2 in even, But like others before have said I keep the girls in at night and/or when I am away. Side note I also have a large noisy dog in a run about 10 feet away great chicken Burgler alarm LOL
