    Michigan Poultry Show Ban!!!!

Well, as the show secretary of the largest poultry show in Wisconsin, I am keenly aware of the issues surrounding this challenge. And, I do care. I hope you do not think I was "pounding" my point home for making 1 post in the last 6 months. Oh, and we are meeting with the state vet later in...

    Michigan Poultry Show Ban!!!!

Except that there is no evidence, to my knowledge, that swaps, shows or other gatherings of poultry have been a vector for AI. In contrast, CAFO facilities (Confined Animal Feeding Operations), with maximum densities, forced air ventilation, and limited genetic diversity, seem to be the major...

    Incuview Incubator

Just completed our second hatch in the IncuView. First hatch rate was 100% of our most dependable hatching breed (Dutch Bantams), second hatch had a rate of 69%, with a mixture of our Dutch and our least reliable hatching breed, Bantam Wyandottes. We were satisfied with those ratios. Things I...

I wholeheartedly agree--eggtopsies are a necessary part of learning about incubation. steve

I installed the "original" plastic fan guard, which they sent me to test out. I put "original" in quotes because originally my incubator came with the plastic mesh fan guard, which I have now replaced. Could you post a photo of these wire guards? I'm not sure any of us have seen them before...

    Incuview Incubator

Put the original fan guard on, moved the temperature probe to egg-level in the corner, and (my daughters) set 33 bantam eggs today. Split between Bantam White Wyandottes and Dutch Bantams. Pretty much a full load! Looking forward to a good hatch steve

How long did the hatch take (first hatched to last hatched)? steve

    Incuview Incubator

I had sent an email to Incubator Warehouse asking whether the heater combo was the same as in the IncuKit, whether the fan speed is adjustable on the IncuView (as it is on the IncuKit), and whether they recommend moving the default position of the temperature sensor to be at egg level. Here is...

Of course you're right. Forgot about that. Nonetheless, the probe position is only irrelevant if the temp is evenly distributed, which in this case it' s not. For whatever reason, by the time the air has circulated back to the fan intake it is cooler, causing the probe to read low and keep the...

    Incuview Incubator

Normally I would agree with the your comment on the position of the probe, but if the air intake "whizzing" past the probe when it is under the fan causes a lower reading, then the heating element will shutoff at a higher temperature, making the corners hot. Of course, I could be wrong on that...

Here are my latest test results. Conditions: Relocated built-in temperature probe out of the fan intake path, to one of the "hot corners" Removed fan guard, which increased air flow (although I would like to re-install and retest it) Turner tray was removed during test Brinsea SpotCheck used to...

    Incuview Incubator

I extended the built-in temperature probe to egg-level, near the back-left corner, and re-ran my 5-point tests. Although the center was still cooler than the corners, the spread of temperatures was reduced significantly. I will post the results next time I fire up my phone (photo is on the...

    Incuview Incubator

Here are my results after removing the fan guard. Still a 1.9 degree difference between the center and the "hot" corner. But, that is a slight improvement of about 0.6 degrees. @Happy Dad , have you repositioned the IncuView's temperature probe sensor from its default position? I have not, and...

    Incuview Incubator

Should be no problem for hatching, as additional heat is generated by the embryo. I've been reading that commercial hatcheries often reduce the hatching temperature to adjust for the metabolic heat generated. I haven't come to a conclusion on that topic yet... Just to be safe, maybe keep the...

    Incuview Incubator

I was thinking that I could do, as you did, and open up the mesh a little. But your results makes me think that the original guard may be the way to go. (The original guard may also direct the air input more favorably over the eggs instead of straight up, which does not appear to be affecting...

    Incuview Incubator

I snipped off the fan guard and you are right, @Happy Dad , wow! The sound decrease and airflow increase is significant. I have the 'bator coming up to temp now, so I will do my usual 5-point temp check to see how it's reacting without the guard. steve

Actually, I was the one that initially measured the temperature differentials in the IncuView. HappyDad is adding invaluable data to corroborate my findings. I hope others will as well. Nonetheless, my Turn-X incubator does not have this degree of variation. I have not measured my Brinsea Mini...
