I'm getting ready to put my 3 week old wynadotte's outside and the area has both grass and moss. Just wondering if the babies will be ok if they peck and eat the moss?
thanks for the tip...I'm going to check those bulbs out....I think I'll turn on the heat lamp otherwise I'll be spending the night worrying instead of sleeping!!!
Hi everyone...I have 4 one-week old Golden Comets residing in a spare bedroom that's about 70° right now and they're quiet and looking comfy snuggled next to each other and they are not shivering...been using a heat lamp 24/7 until today as it got quite warm in there...wondering if I need to...
I have a mean rooster and need to get rid of him and quick ... he is hurting my hens!!! any thoughts??? I live about 45 minutes South of Boston so if anyone knows someone who would like him...that would be great!!!
We don't have a light so I guess I can start with that, although we've always gotten eggs daily despite the change in daylight (even during the shortest days of winter)...our chickens don't free range...they have a 50 X 25 run area so they have plenty of area to move about ... I have noticed...
We're having a similar problem ... we have 5 red sexlink hens (RIR/Delaware) that are 2 1/2 years old and 3 RIR that are four months old (2 female/one male)....at first glance our best guess is all the reasons listed could be the culprit...hidden eggs, predator, lice/mites, diet, weather, stress...
not sure where to post this...my sister came by and told me she bought eggs from a local person who has a roadside stand (been buying there for years)... recently she cracked open an egg that was all black inside - disgusting smell...so we're wondering what are the possible causes?? she is...
Thanks for the info ... I posted a silimar question late last nite but should have read this one first... I'm on my way out there to get ride of the temporary area for our 8 week old RIR's the chicks will be happy to roam about the country!!!
I'm having the same issue with chicks eating layer feed and hens eating grower feed...can I give them all one kind of feed??? they're doing OK with each other although the big girls do some chasing once in a while .... I'm getting tired of putting the chicks in a separate area to eat :/
Thanks for the info ... I haven't put them in the coop yet ... they're still fenced in a separate area of the run and we bring them in at night ... sadly one of our chicks didn't make it so we are down to three and I suspect one is a rooster so we won't be able to keep it since we have...
Hi there... need some advice on when to let four 5 week old Rhode Island Reds sleep in the coop with four 2 yr. old red sexlinks (Rhode Island Red/Delaware) ... I've been slowly introducing them in the run off and on and for the past 2 weeks (in a separate fenced in area in the run) ... over the...
Thanks for all the replies so far its been a quiet week with the exception of our trash barrels taking a severe beating with garbage everywhere guess they're sending us a message that they are indeed out there just waiting for another opportunity to strike we're still trying to figure out a...
We were out til after 9:00 PM .... a raccoon (or so we thought only one) was hanging on the wall inside the coop when we checked our five girls before closing the coop door ... needless to say our 17 yr old daughter and I were horrifed --- as murphy's law would have it my husband and son are...
