You might also want to click on the "breeds" link at the top of the page and read about the different kinds of chickens. You will learn about temperment, how large they can grow, etc. I used the information I gained there to pick my barred rocks.

She might be going broody. A lot of times hens will pull their feathers out to place in their nest and since she has some eggs in there she may be trying to hatch them. This is just a guess on my part because I'm a newbie too. At least this will give your post a bump so the experts can weigh in.

Have you considered making her a "house" chicken ?
