Frostbite and coop ventilation and insulation

We are first time chicken owners so this is our first winter. We have 6 chickens that we let run around in our backyard all day. This week we had a cold snap and our poor brown leghorn chicken got frostbite on her comb. It got down to 17 degrees. Really want to prevent it from happening again...

New pullet laying multiple soft eggs a day

Thought I'd give an update on our chicken. She continued to lay two soft shelled eggs a day for almost the first 3 weeks. Now the last week she has given us one good solid egg a day. In fact she lays just before sunrise each day. We got one double yolker from her. I ended up giving her the...

New pullet laying multiple soft eggs a day

New pullet laying multiple soft eggs a day

Thanks. It's hard not to worry. Problem is that I have a 15 week pullet. I believe pullets shouldn't get that much calcium until at least 18 weeks. Which puts me at feeding developer feed for another few weeks. Haven't heard of the rooster booster. Is it something I can give to a 15 week...

New pullet laying multiple soft eggs a day

This forum has been invaluable. I have used it so frequently. But now I have a question I can't seem to find the answer to. Have a back yard flock of 6 pullets. Two at 21 weeks, two at 20 weeks, one at 17 weeks, and one at 15 weeks. I let them out of the coop/run for a few hours a day. One of...
