We were actually able to take back the roosters today in exchange for three hens. Yes, they’re hens this time. 😅 The new ladies are quarantining and hopefully this is the end of it now. 🤞
We have three hens, and three roosters in another pen. Though now it seems we have three hens living with three roosters and then the additional roosters.
Omg, what a nightmare. Yeah, my six year old came to me and told me one of our new “girls” was attempting the “wedding dance” (what the kids call it when the chickens attempt to mate, idk 😂) with our established hens. 🤦♀️
My husband bought some chickens from a person in an online chicken group with the intention of getting four hens, but I have strong suspicions three of the four are actually roosters. We are hoping for clarity on this. 😬
Thank you! Sometimes the photos IRL aren’t as clear to me, especially when people try to show their hens that look like roosters but aren’t. This illustration helps. 🖤
Thanks, everyone. What are the telling features? Three of our flock crow and bicker with each other and have saddle feathers and more obvious rooster-type features. But this one acts more like the pullets and until recently didn’t have feathers that made me think roo.
Our chickens are 15 weeks now, and I have one that I just cannot decide if it’s a cockerel or pullet. It looks more like the roosters, but still gives hen vibes, and I’ve seen photos of a similar looking chicken that is actually a hen. They don’t lay eggs yet, so I can’t use that as a guide.
