Incubating mail order eggs in the summer

Thank you! Yes I don’t expect a 100% successful hatch rate, but hoping we get lucky with one or two.

Incubating mail order eggs in the summer

Ha ha! Yeah I would not be shocked at all if whatever did manage to hatch were roos. That is my typical luck with silkies to begin with! We have 4 little fluffy roo butts floating around here already, so that would 100% be my luck. Thank you for your input!

Incubating mail order eggs in the summer

Thank you so much. I was just about to get it set up and warmed up in the laundry area since it has no windows and no vents but I will find a different location with stable temps! Thanks again!

Incubating mail order eggs in the summer

Hi everyone. I am expecting some silkie hatching eggs to arrive in the mail in two days. This is my first time attempting to hatch eggs received in the mail. Can anyone confirm for me how long I should let them sit pointy end down before putting them in the incubator? I have ready anywhere from...

    Predator attack but survived

Thank you for the information above. The coop is totally secure, the run is fenced in but they do free range so the gates are often open during the day. The ones that did vanish from the run/coop were done in the early evening before we locked up. The silkie that was attacked and survived was...

    Predator attack but survived

Hey all. Anyone know what kind of attack this could have come from? Silkie hen a little over a year old. She navigated her way out of the coop with the chicks she hatched and was nesting with them hidden on the side of the garage. Was woken up to an awful sound and screamed out the window while...

Hi all. I just picked up some 1-2 week old silkie chicks. One of them seems to have bloody stool, or it could be something else? Pic below for visual. All seem to be acting normal, eating, drinking, no pasty butt. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

    Opinions on type of injury

:( That is what I was afraid of. I am hoping he doesn’t have any permanent damage as well. Such a sweet little chicken. Thank you for your reply!

    Opinions on type of injury

We have a mixed flock. This little one is a silkie that we got in August (one of 5) so we are not even sure if it is a roo or not as we did straight run. No one has bullied him, but obviously that doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen today. This silkie has always straggled behind the others in the...

    Opinions on type of injury

We do live out in the country in northeastern Wisconsin and have about 40 acres of wooded land behind our property so there is a chance that predators are in the area frequently. I thought that a predator would be able to do more damage which prompted my fear of pecking, but again it was within...

    Opinions on type of injury

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone could help me to try and figure out what happened to one of our chickens. The chicken was in the coop one minute doing just fine, and about 5 min later I found it about 3 feet outside of the coop door on its side breathing heavily. I picked him up and his...
