Sunday May 17, 2015 10 AM. Holden City Hall - Hallar Building, 101 West 3rd Street Holden, MO 64040. Animal Wonders is hosting our first, and what we hope will be an annual event, Endangered Species Day Fair 2015. Crafts and activities all day for the kids, live animal displays, experiments, and...
A fun trick that can determine sex in Peach-faced (aka Rosy-faced). Give the birds access to paper, the females will likely shred the paper and place in the their rump feathers. In 25 years, I've never seen a male do this. Also, the females of all species tend to be slightly larger than the...
They are not an easy species to care for; they have special requirements, and are quite expensive compared to many if the species covered on this forum. I would do more research.
A Ringneck should have started a clutch by now. There could be several stress variables preventing her from starting - weather, disturbances, diet, etc.

I believe any mention of "regular" should be "red" or just Golden as it is the nominate, wild form. Prior to the 1960s, there was no such thing as a "Red Golden", just Golden (no one outside the breeding world calls the species red golden). The Ghigi is perhaps the only "mutation" I trust, I...
Thanks guys, was surprised I was able to log in!! We'll see how long before someone turns me in again & I have NO faith or trust in the.... let's just say, I'm not taking my coat off. I can't read the "Hybrid Pheasant" topic, but see it's still there. Shameful.
Dan
Be careful when the mixing American Quail in the aviary, they can sometimes be aggressive towards other species. Most of the Coturnix genus should be ok if you have plenty of space.

I think you are massively confusing domestic breeds vs. wild species. That's the problem associating them with poultry, you get responses like this. You never see this confusion with other facets of aviculture or science. I can't figure out why it's such a hard concept to grasp on this forum...
Wow. Face in palm. If you are keeping 8 pheasants in that size of aviary, that's as inhumane as peepers. Hate to say it, but I can't wait for the USDA to start regulating birds (as the rumor has been floating around a few years), weed out people like you.
Please send me the page number in...
Lesser Snow Geese (with blue morphs in as well - possibly a few Ross, saw them not far from this location) a couple miles down the road from me. Johnson County, Missouri 2-15-2013
Common Goldeneye, Hooded Merganser, Canvasback, Mallard, Cackling Goose, Canada Goose - also a pair of pastel...
Sorry, completely disagree with your entire statement. Landscaped, enriched aviaries will give the birds a natural area to get away from an aggressive bird & it will keep them stimulated. There is NO USE FOR PEEPERS. Whatever your experience has been, I suggest taking a different approach...
I prefer the 1" over the 2" to keep starlings & sparrows out. It also depends on your snow-load as well. With lots of snow, 2" might be your best bet. The 1" has more surface area and can gather lots of snow or ice, sag and and break. There are few ways around it - stagger your posts or make...
There are a few here, but remain very expensive (not an easy species to rear in captivity).
Virgil Bates was able to rear a few last year, his pics are here: http://www.gbwf.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8105
I can't get onto ISIS any longer to see what zoos they are in, but I'm thinking...
@ vcomb: There are so many other resources out there that one can find out what a pure, wild species should look like. My feeling is that since there is such resentment towards hybrid pheasants, his/her photos were posted just to incite a reaction. They got one, probably sitting back and...
