🦆I wanted to make a little journal of me hatching my call duck eggs! My girl Willow laid her very first egg with me (adopted at 2) on Sunday. I had seen her and Birch mating a lot so I figured why not incubate? So I bought a Nurture Right 360 at TSC and we are crossing those fingers for a baby...
My birds were diagnosed with Coryza today by my avian vet. I’m doing everything that my vet recommends, I’m picking up anibiotic‘s tomorrow to treat the whole flock. But I was just looking for some support and maybe some other peoples stories on where to go from here. I’m a little confused and...
I am doing a 5 month long project for school about ducks. I'm looking for a breed of duck that my pretend business would be most successful with. I need something I can use for meat, sell eggs, and grow/lay quickly. I know there is a breed like this out there I just can't recall the name. My...
Anyone have any experience with French Marans? I adore feathered feet and I stumbled across these beauties! How do they do with your other flock members? Where did you source them? Did you show them? Are they friendly? Anything you have I will take.
My dad is at it again. After losing Daytona the whole family knows we need more chickens. Her death was really hard. She had a prolapsed vent that we just couldn't fix. Not even the vet. He wants a breed that isn't prone to laying too many eggs until they die, but will still lay a reasonable...
We have 4 brahma hens and 3 golden comet hens in a 10x10ish coop. The run is likely 15x20. I fear my coop is too big to keep them toasty in winter. We have a heat plate for those really cold nights but it's a last resort. It is difficult to send electricity to the coop so we are trying to save...
We are about a week away from getting 2 standard light Brahma hens. First off, I need names. I like woodsy and earthy names

Willow
Birch

Rugger
Bean
Twinkle
Tulip
Daytona
Clover 🌈
Also any tips for intigaration? The new hens are about 2 years old I believe. Not sure how...
I'm currently looking at Incubators with the following traits
- able to hatch out call ducks
- VERY hands off- this is my first hatch so I don't really know what I'm doing
- Automatic turner- I'm not home for around 12 hours a day so I physically can't turn them myself
- anything below $400
-...
Willow my 2 year old Call duck is constantly injuring herself. We were gifted her about 2 weeks ago and she has been nothing but trouble. Today she tried to nose dive out of her raised pen and I think she twisted her ankle? Is this possible in Ducks? Both of her legs feel fine all the way to the...
Daytona has a respiratory infection so I bought the only amoxicillin and it antibiotic at my feed store. Are they ok to use? I have both amoxicillin and penicillin. It sure which one to use.
I'm now required to be NPIP certified to show my birds in the state fair. In order to fill out an application i have to chose one of the three following catagories.
Breeder/hatchery
Chick dealer
Commercial egg layer/broiler producer
I am none of these things. Help??
I never ever thought I’d have to venture to this section, sometimes I get annoyed at the people post in this section. But here I am. I’ve got a buff Brahma who is nine weeks old on Monday. He/she likes to fight with everybody and has a red comb, but it’s still pretty pinkish and it doesn’t seem...
I am just creating this thread to talk about my issues I have had with cackle hatchery.
1- they sent me a chicken with 4 legs!
2- After talking to customer service about said chicken- they totally blew me off and didn't respond back to me for WEEKS
3- After I did get in touch with CS they told...
Mmmm… how do i say this. I ordered 6 chicks from Cackle Hatchery, i was given 8! and one of them has 4 legs. I honestly don’t expect survival but it doesn’t seem to be in pain?? I’m not sure how I would tell… But I just don’t know what to do.
