I've been watching a wild pair of nesting Canada geese nest on our pond. Tonight some fireworks scared them enough for them to fly away, like over the trees until I could not longer hear their fading flock calls.
Will they typically come back to their nest?
I was wondering where I could find hatching eggs of solid colored muscovies? The pieds are cool, but I've always wanted solid colored birds. I really like the blues, chocolates, and ripples. Just can't seem to find anyone who has them and offers hatching eggs. Any ideas? Any members here breed...
Looking to replace the rooster I lost to predation. Mainly looking for hatching eggs that can be shipped within the US. No teasing with eggs that cannot be imported! LOL
Who(doesn't have to be a BYC member) has the darkest laying Cuckoo Marans? Looking for the best egg color in the Cuckoo...
I thought that blue was a modied "black" gene. Homozygous dominant resulting in black, heterozygous blue and homozygous recessive being splash. So I didn't think that you could have black and blue on the same bird, right?
I recently purchased an EE rooster. He was being sold as an "ameraucana"...
I'm located in North Carolina and there has been a wild duck that has been hanging out on our pond for the past 2-3 weeks. It's a little thing and normally we only have mallards, but it's definitely not a mallard.
It dives down under the water and will stay down anywhere from 3-6 full seconds...
I have been googling and searching and reading what I can find, but just can't seem to find the answer.
How did they create the autosexing breed? Did they just continually select for white males and grey females? Then just over time that is what the genetic information call for?
When the...
We ordered 30 Cornish Cross males from Welp hatchery and they arrived April 23. They sent 32, one died in the box and all else went well. Then suddenly at about a week old, they start dropping like flies, 2-4 dead a day/night. WTH!?!?! I purchased them knowing that we would experience SOME...
I have 5 Cayugas, 4 gals and a handsome boy. They have laid for me before and laid well.
The chickens are all laying. Then when I added new nest boxes the ducks got all excited and gave me two eggs that week, but THAT WAS IT!!!! What in the world!?!?
The ducks get the same as the chickens...
I gave my geese 15 eggs to set on and they did so immediately. They've set on them for about 5 days now and today I went to check for extra eggs and the nest was completely empty. 2 feet away is half a shell, but that's it. It almost seemed staged and I'm upset. Goose eggs are HUGE, I don't...
We have a 10X10 tractor that we will be using for meaties. We will probably get about 25 meaties. We have a 5 acre horse pasture that the tractor would be in, for optimum mobility. I have some quick questions.
I am curious how often this tractor would need to be moved? Probably more often as...
Just as simple as it sounds. About how much feed would 25 Cornish Cross meaties eat until they reach 8-9 weeks of age? Just trying to get an estimation on how much food we're going to have to buy.
I've been looking all morning and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I've even searched BYC.
1) What is the injectable dosage for standard sized chickens with 1% ivermectin?
2) Can ivermectin be used on ducks? What is the injectable dosage of 1% ivermectin?
3) Can ivermectin be used on...
I know there are several breeds of LGDs. The more popular being Great Pyrenees, but there are also Maremmas, Anatolians, and some Mastiffs.
I would like to open a discussion about the different types of breeds, pros, cons, and pictures.
I am not currently in the market for LGDs, but that's...
ETA: I've decided not to settle for a dairy goat, rather simply wait until I can get what I really want(jersey cow ). Thank you all for your help. I'll leave this open for others interested in goat/sheep auctions.
I've been dying to own a Jersey milk cow, but I just can't swing that initial...
Owner's bragg!
So I struggled with a round bale of hay this morning to get it out of the very back of the barn and out into the pasture and then into the hay shelter for the horses to munch on while we're on the mountains. After 20-30 minutes struggling with that, I got it accomplished and then...
Okay, it's a bit random and I am not in the market for horses(right now).
I know of a couple of horse dealers/breeders, that will take just a truck and head to Oklahoma(I 'think' it was Oklahoma). Once there they would buy a large horse trailer, fill it with cheap, but good quality quarters...
