Chicks 2 weeks apart in same brooder safe

Unfortunately because they are small bantams the dog crates bars are to wide and they walk right out lol I ended up putting a divider down the middle of this brooder so they can see each other but can’t hurt each other. In 2 days I’ll let them mingle again and see if it goes more smooth. The...

Chicks 2 weeks apart in same brooder safe

Both breeds are bantams. And the silkies are 2 weeks older so they are larger but there’s only 2 of them🤷🏼‍♀️ So I’m hoping they won’t trample the littles

Hello! I have 2 bantam silkies in my brooder that are 2 weeks old today. And just picked up 1 day old d’uccle chicks (3 of them) I added them to same brooder an hour ago. The silkies are ignoring the d’uccles so far. If there was going to be a problem would it be evident already ? Can I take...

    Does this look ok?

They are at the edges of where the heat lamp heat is. Not the edges of brooder. (I should’ve been more specific. ) They have plenty of space away from the heat lamp. it’s registering at 88 directly under it. And 70 on other end of brooder

    Does this look ok?

88 degrees now. they aren’t sleeping directly under it. More like the edges of it. At night I’m always terrified the heat lamp will malfunction or the bulb die. How do I make sure everything is ok throughout the night? Should I wake halfway through the night to check?

Proven broody allowing a 5 month old hen to sit on her nest?

It seems I jumped the gun and the younger hen was just laying an egg. I’m moving my broody and her eggs to a rabbit hutch today.

Silkie broody need to know which option is better for separating her from flock

Yes the rabbit hitch has a plastic tray under wires. Which I modified with wood on top of the wires so the chicken and chicks won’t be on wires (obviously would be bad) lol And the top of hutch has a wooden roof and inside the hutch is a small triangular hut with another roof on that so I think...

Silkie broody need to know which option is better for separating her from flock

Sooo my silkie went broody a week ago. She’s a proven mama and a good broody. So I’m allowing it. We are in Pennsylvania and the weather is still really cold at night around 30 degrees Only problem is our extra coop is under renovations and that is where I usually put my broody hens to hatch...

Proven broody allowing a 5 month old hen to sit on her nest?

My best silkie mama just weaned her chicks a few weeks ago and has decided to sit again. we usually separate our broodies into their own maternity coop to hatch and raise their babies but we are renovating the second coop and it is not usable currently. (We didn’t expect a broody again so soon)...
