I have a Delaware who has stopped laying as well. It's been about 2 weeks. She's just about 14 months old and up until now she's been a pretty good layer. She isn't broody, although we do have a Buff Orphington who is broody right now. I'm wondering if this is having an effect on her? Our...
We have a BO who went broody back in December. Same thing - we'd physically remove her from the nesting box & lock her out. The second she could get back into the nesting box she would. It lasted about 6 weeks and then finally she just snapped out of it. She started laying eggs & all was...
OK, I feel better after reading this broody thread. I have a Buff Orphington who for the past 3 days will not leave her nexting box unless forcefully removed. No eggs for 3 days either, and huge bare spot on her chest. From what I've read, this is her going broody. Is it really true that...
It's at the hm.... well, the flyer just says Nevad State Meet in Reno NV Nov 19th & 20th.
Somebody on this thread, maybe Carol? will be there. Sorry Carol if it's not you & I'm neglecting to name who it really is. the phone # for more info is DD Monroe 847-7948 or e-mail...
I'm so bummed, I am not going to be able to go to the Poultry show this weekend. We were so excited to see some other chicks and meet some of the folks from this forum. We'll be out of town - so hopefully we can catch another show.
My girls have been laying pretty darn good! At least 3 out of...
Ha ha.... "like she's waiting for the bus" That made me laugh today.
I only have two that are laying right now and they seem to be pretty quick about it. I haven't heard the "egg song" from either of them. They're sly.
Oh my, how sad. I hope she isn't suffering. That's pretty incredible she's still able to lay eggs when she can barely walk. Wow. I really hope she pulls through. I can't wait to check back in tomorrow and see how she's doing. Gosh, that really is so sad. 6 months old sounds young for a...
Julie, I have the flyer for that right here! My husband picked it up somewhere & told me "we're going". He wants to enter our girls in a show sometime. He thinks they're so pretty - and I have to agree, they are. My little Lakenvelder just did a little "squat" too. I should have three egg...
As a first time, and relatively new chicken "mommy" - I'm so thrilled we now have a second hen laying!!!! Got our first egg from our Golden Laced Wyandotte yesterday. Yeah Ella!! Just wanted to share my excitement. Now if I could just get my other two in gear....
Loving it. These chicks are...
Have to show it off. Smaller egg on left is from Wanda this morning! One on right is from the (gasp!) grocery store - I had to buy a dozen yesterday since I thought this was never going to happen. Hopefully, last dozen I'll ever buy.
It worked! So, the one one the left was laid this morning by our Delaware. I was thinking it was never going to happen. I actually just bought a dozen eggs yesterday at the grocery store. Hopefully won't be doing that anymore...
Finally, our first egg this morning! I'm so excited & proud of my Wanda (our Delaware). It was right in her nesting box and really a beautiful brown egg. Yippie!!!

Patoot, I'm dying to know too how long before an egg will appear after the hen begins with the squatting. One of mine has been doing it for about 5 or 6 days now. I want an egg!!! My girl who I really think is ready is 25 weeks old. I found this info on squatting yesterday on this...
