LaVonne's San Diego Mini Coop
Hi, Fellow BYC fans. I thought I'd share my recent experience building my first ever major project, a coop for my hens. After spending way too much time looking at designs, coop pages and how to articles, I decided it was time to just leap in and see what I could...

I think the problem is that at some point you didn't go to BYC to follow up on the thread. They don't send any more...

Hmmm 4 months is a long time, I know they can go for quite a long while though, like when broody at least several months.
Maybe you have an egg eater and you just haven' caught trace of it yet?
My girls skipped 2 months with their recent molt.
Hi Guys and Dolls,
How the time has flown by for all of us!Sorry I've been out of touch (too much work and not enough play!) I've come to the painful decision that it's time to part with my sweet rockerchics, so they are listed on Craigslist, along with all the equipment that goes with raising...
Here you go. This is a spin off from BYC, dedicated to our region. We've had 4 or 5 get togethers, and they have been a lot of fun, and a great resource. Please consider joining us.http://sandiegochickens.webs.com/ We look forward to meeting you.
Here you go https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=384942 That's the link to our San Diego group on BYC. We also use another site, and I'll get you a link for that.
Lots of people in El Cajon have chickens. I don't think there will be a problem, especially if you don't have roosters. You can try calling animal control, they should be able to give you the official ruling. I live in San Diego, and we are allowed chickens, but not roosters. I believe the rules...
I also had a great time in Norco, but boy was it windy!! Lots of friendly people, with lots of tiny chickens! Even cocopops, and are they ever cute. Looking forward to our next event here. Is one planned yet? Don't know how I missed the last one here, but I sure don't want to miss the next one...
Hello from San Diego! I was linked to you through SanDiegochickens.com, a wonderful group we started last year.I'm planning to come visit you guys, though I will not be bringing any birds with me. May bring a carpooler or two, if anyone wants to join me. I'm also a beader(jewelry), so I'm open...
I also vote for QC supply. The shipping charge is reasonable $6, and there is no minimun order. Just talk to a few chicken friends and split an order, and shipping charge.
I buy bales of straw at the feed store, to use in the nest box and as bedding in the run. Costs about $7 for a 60 pound bale. The only down side is that it is messy and hard to store for my small run (5' x 10'). A bale will last about 3 to 4 months, unless we get a lot of rain.
I find that building is very satisfying to the soul. I hated changing the muddy water in the gravity fed watering dishes, and finally decided to try making a chicken nipple watering system. It turned out great, and now my girls have clean water all the time, and a bit more floor space in the run...
It's just a shame I live alone, cause someone would have gotten a big laugh watching me hold my chickens heads to the nipples to get them started. They all took to it very quickly, and I had the time to stay right there and watch to make sure each one walked to it after her lesson, and got a...
Also, I'm out there every day anyway to collect eggs and visit the girls, so it's no big deal to lift the bucket lid, rinse it off and refill the bucket. You'll want to put your vent hole (to allow air into the bucket so the water will come out) on the side of the bucket, not the top.
