Question about feed and new chicks

I have 10 pullets and a cockerel that are on Layena. We recently got six chicks that are on chick feed inside in the brooder. When I add these chicks to the flock, what do I do about their feed? Do I switch them all to chick feed?

Cockerel with foot problem - maybe bumblefoot??

Thanks! I have a good sized brooder I built before we got the chickens, and I think we're going to just keep him separated until everything heals up.

Cockerel with foot problem - maybe bumblefoot??

Quote: Oh, that's before. I covered the entire foot with blue kote, so he has purple feet now.

Cockerel with foot problem - maybe bumblefoot??

I am thinking it might be frostbite too. Even though temps haven't been extreme here, it HAS snowed a lot. And he did start going outside once the dominant rooster was gone. His feet aren't hot to touch. Not even after a soak. I rubbed all over them to make sure they were smooth to rule out...

Cockerel with foot problem - maybe bumblefoot??

If he does indeed have bumblefoot, does that affect the other birds? Do I have to worry about the eggs my other birds are laying, as far as their being edible?

Cockerel with foot problem - maybe bumblefoot??

You can get a good idea of what his claws look like in the second pic. I thought they showed up pretty well.

Cockerel with foot problem - maybe bumblefoot??

I guess anything's possible. I didn't think it had been cold enough for him to get it, especially when he spends most of his time inside with the heat lamps. I'm not entirely sure. I wish I had noticed it sooner so I would have more of an idea how long he's been dealing with it!

Cockerel with foot problem - maybe bumblefoot??

    1) What type of bird , age and weight. - Welsummer cockerel, just over six months. Not sure on weight. 2) What is the behavior, exactly. Eating and drinking okay, walks by lifting legs fairly high. Lays around a lot. 3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? He lays around a lot, but...

Haven't been on here in a while!

All twelve of my chicks have made it. We ended up with two roos, but my neighbors are excited about them for the time being. Tonight is their first night in the coop. We bought an 8x10 storage building and turned it into a coop. They don't know what to do with all the room! This is Big Hoss...

    Are these roos?

My last shipment of chicks was three SS and three Welsummer. I think I got a roo out of each. I suspected the Welsummer was a roo from the get go. Am I wrong? They are the only two that have a reddish comb and have wattles coming in. P.S. They're 6.5 weeks old.

best place to order chicks from?

Everyone's going to give you a different answer, but I have done two small orders from Meyer Hatchery. It's in Ohio, so only 5.5 hours away from me. Both orders arrived less than 24 hours from shipping, and the checks were alive and healthy. My guess is any place you order from that does small...

    Chicks flying?

My chicks got out of the kiddie pool brooder in the first few days. My EE's are two weeks old now and flapping around everywhere no problem. I have them in the brooder I built that has a lid. They're getting on the roost regularly and I don't put it past them to fly out.

"My Pet Chicken.com": Shipping Prices for 8 Birds

That price is for express shipping which is required with small orders. I ordered six chicks from Meyer, only to do the same thing the next week. So yeah, for 12 chicks I paid $62 in shipping. But I got them overnight, and they are all alive, happy and healthy, and sexed. So to me, it was worth it.

I feel like my baby just took it's first steps! (pics!)

I was told it was pointless to put a roost bar in the brooder. The one on the ladder and second from the left on the bottom pic? One week old.
