NEIGHBOR & PIT BULL TROUBLES! Any Suggestions for protection?

I have spent 2 years raising my beautiful girls and yes, they all have names. They are a mix or RIR, BR, RS, and BS's. They are phenomenal layers. We recently had new neighbors move in to the 20 acre piece behind us. They have a pit bull and a lab. Since they moved in 4 weeks ago their dogs have...

Injured chicken - need advice with stitches

It is so great to see a thread that actually shows the results of an event. This post helped me as I had one of my chickens attacked by my neighgors dog and the wound was exactly the same. Hopefully my "Broody" will recover just like your little hen. Thank you for the updates!

PLEASE HELP - My only rooster (Barred Rock, 7 mos.) in my flock of 20 hens (mixed B.R., RIR, R.S., B.S.) got sick yesterday. I went to let them out of their coop yesterday. I noticed in the morning that I didn't hear him crow. When I got to the coop he was standing at the back of the coop by...

This happened a few months ago and I just read this looking for answers for my constipated Barred Rock rooster. I bawled like a baby. My husband says I can't have chickens if I am going to cry every time I lose one..........I respect how hard you tried to save her! What a champ!

Not going into the nesting box

I had straw in my nesting boxes and my hens hated it. I think it poked them and they couldn't move it around as they wanted. I changed it out for pine shavings and have not had any trouble getting them to use their nesting boxes since then. It is much easier to clean and smells better too!

    Egg Laying in Wrong Place

Not sure if your problem is resolved yet but I was wondering, do you have straw in their nesting boxes or pine shavings? I had straw in my nesting boxes to begin with and my girls didn't like it. As soon as I switched to pine shavings they agreed that this was the ticket and have been laying in...

Why are 5-8 week old birds huddling in a group by the wall at night?

Well we put the aviary netting over the top of the chick's real estate today. No more worries about hawks, bobcats or anything else that might get in from the topside. I am wondering though if I should still shut the door of their coop. They are physically safe because nothing can get in to get...

Why are 5-8 week old birds huddling in a group by the wall at night?

I am so glad I found these posts. I love yours Henny Jenny. I needed a good laugh! I was worried about my girls. They huddle as well. They pile on top of each other in the corner of the coop at night. They all go in about the same time each night. We go down and spend a little time with them...
