It is looking more like a boy, but it started out very pullet-ish. My other Rock boys were very obvious to me.
This is a 7-week-old, and any input is appreciated. Tomorrow all the boys are going to a guy in the country.
I have some 5-week-old cockerals that need new homes. One Blue Rock, from halo's flock, and several Black Ameraucanas from shaffer's flock. The blacks have the split-lavendar gene. $5 each, for pickup only.
OOPS! Just realized that I posted this in the wrong section!
*****Moved it for you...
My Hova 1590 is having trouble holding temps. I may be able to baby it through this hatch. It is now covered with a blanket, and the temp is getting close to 99.5.
I contacted the company, and they no longer make this model. According to the person helping me over the phone, it would cost...
The turner is almost full of Lavendar/Split Lav eggs from Shaffer, and Rock eggs from halo's Blue and Splash pens. Aren't they gorgeous? I am really excited! Both breeders did a fantastic job packaging the eggs. Thank you, thank you, Harry, Charm, and Kathy.
This will be the most exciting...
I know someone at work who owns peacocks. She told me that the eggs are very difficult to hatch in an incubator. Their broody hens have great success, however, so there is no fertility issue going on.
I'm wondering if these eggs have some special needs, like duck or goose eggs? Anyone have...
I am going to invest in some electric poultry netting/fencing for a problematic corner of our property. Anyone have any experience with this and any advice on where to purchase it online?
I'm having deja vu here---how many times can I pull a roo from the pullet bin? I chose this guy as a chick, as he was just gorgeous in coloring. He's turned out to have off-white in his feathering and I think he's going to turn into a very handsome roo.
We're starting to hear some practice...
I advertised my two Welsummer cockerals on Craigslist and Freecycle, and I was able to find two good homes for them. One went to a young guy who has had chickens all his life, and had always wanted a Welsummer. The other cockeral scored big-time, landing himself at an organic vegetable farm as...
I'm making a sign for my coop and I got it a little off-center. I want to put some chicken tracks on the right side of the sign to balance it out. Anyone have a link or a pic of chicken tracks?
Thanks!
I thought I'd post a pic of Hermione's "barring". I've owned many EEs, but never one this taupe color, and never one with barring. I think she is going to be very pretty. Her BR buddy looks like she may have some nice barring too.
A while back there was a thread to post baby EE pics and...
I'm having a block in naming this little chick. She is quite distinctive for an EE, with her little mask and lighter muff/beard. All suggestions are welcome!
This is a feedstore chick. I've never had a BA, and this one has a couple of white wing bars and a yellow head spot like a BR. It looked like a BA in the store, but now I'm wondering.
Speckledhen, our resident BR expert, isn't sure either! Those of you who have raised BA's--what do you...
My friend had a broody Ameraucana that she did not want to deal with--so I brought her home with me! She is still settling in, but has spent some time in the nest, sitting on 4, infertile "practice" eggs. If she stays broody, I have eggs in the bator on day 4 to put under her.
It would be...
Here is a link to a story about a pig. The pics are so CUTE!

I'm just wondering for those of you who have had chickens for several years--do broodys tend to go through it every year? Have any of you seen one go broody just once?
Last year's gal, got puffy and hormonal for a week or so this spring, but didn't sit. Then she returned to normal. Last year...
The girls didn't know whether to travel north to the run for scratch or go south to the coop to be let out for freeranging!!! They were totally NOT expecting a photo op!
"I'm a roo!"
"Me too!"
"Me three!"
Out of my small hatch, I think I have 3 boys and 3 girls. One of the "girls" is still questionable, but she's a girl until proven otherwise!!! The boys are definitely the friendliest and most precocious!
