My sister in law insisted our eggs must be 'covered in poop' (she didn't say poop). Well? They come from the same place as the eggs you buy in the store come from and THOSE aren't covered in poop. . . . and one of my co-workers can't IMAGINE eating my eggs, he won't say why.
Love to see the crows hanging out in the neighborhood because they'll chase off the Red Tails and Peregrine Falcons that hang around. I've seen them chase the hawks right down to the ground.
Go easy on the USPS everyone, they are the ONLY carrier who will deliver chicks (or bees!). UPS & FedEx won't handle them last time I checked. My dh is a carrier and they all are very concerned about making sure that chicks get where they're going safely but many don't realize how warm they...
10 hens and we consider it a good day if our RIR lays an egg. I can't wait for them to get up to speed again - I had to BUY eggs for Thanksgiving. ~gasp~
None - that'd be none from 10 hens 2 days in a row. . . . I know that they should be throttling back this time of year but what the heck? Not any nests either so I don't think anyone is eating eggs.
You all are making me feel a little better - we have 3 EE's and 1 Welsummer who aren't laying yet at 25 weeks. The older girls are plugging along but these 4 are in no hurry. At least I know it's not unusual and no one is eating their eggs. We've been down THAT road before. :-p
Nice! We're only about an hour from Cobleskill so if dd's softball games don't get in the way it'll be a great Sunday thing to do! I'm afraid of what I'll come home with though. . . .
Hello everyone -
I joined a couple of days ago (I have password issues. . . ) we're in upstate NY and have 6 year old hens and 4 4 month olds we added because 6 was just. not. enough! The girls all have names given by the kids, much to my dismay, a Jersey Giant, Georgia. A Buff Orp, Flopsy...
Thanks - I've started giving them the BOSS and some higher protein snacks. Our delaware hen is definitley molting and it looks like the dominique & the wyandotte are starting too. As long as everyone stays healthy then I'm happy.
Hello everyone -
I've been searching topics without ever joining since we got our first hens in August last year. Now I need some advice. We have 6 hens that have been laying, reliably, anywhere from 4-6 eggs daily since March - we were on vacation & had the neighbors watching the girls. They...
