I hatched out my EE in mid May and she laid her first egg this week and it was light brown. She hatched out from a green egg. Will my EE eventually lay green eggs or will she continue to lay brown ones? What is your experience/opinion? Thanks!
I have also tried almost everything under the sun to break my broody silkies but it never works. I just let them be but make sure they get up and get a bit of exercise, food, water and treats. They always seem to go broody for more than three weeks at a time. I vote to put eggs under her and i...
For my pullet and situation i think I am just going to keep an eye on her and see what happens. She is eating and drinking just fine. I will put in some cement blocks that dh can get from work though. I was reading that you should not use superglue on their beaks because its toxic. Instead if I...
Cement block is a great idea. I have some extra bricks I can put in there. I assume they would work similar to the cement blocks. I guess I didnt realize that their beaks could grow out. I have no idea how long her beak has been this way but she isnt in any pain and is still eating and drinking...
I have a 19 week old pullet who has a cracked beaked right down the center. Just noticed it today. Doesn't seem to bother her. I dont want it to get worse. Should i seal it up with super glue?
I love how we have added on so many times that we now have two coops with two runs that are connected but can be separated by just closing a door. That way there is a place for two different sizes/ages of chickens to grow up before everyone can be together. I hate that our small original coop...
We have a rat problem. Ick! The rats we have can "fit" right through our chicken wire. Although some of them are getting so fat that they really have to squeeze themselves through it...trust me, I've gone out there at dusk and caught them off guard and watched before. I've tried rat traps...
I have tried this with my EE and it did not work well. I guessed wrong on half of them . This is not a fool proof way at all and I'm not even sure if it works on all breeds or not. They say it can only be done when they are about 2-4 days old. But yes, if you search youtube wing sexing there...
The only way my DH would let me get more chickens was that I agreed to hatch out his absolute favorite type of chicken, polish. So, I have. Now I have 6 awesome 6 wk old polish for DH and my other 8 chickens. HAHA and when this all started a year ago this month (I'm a newbie) we built a coop...
Oh I am so glad I came across this thread! Although I don't think my DH would let me trim our Polish crests but I want them to at least see comfortably if not for their own safety! Thanks for posting all the instructions and pics....totally helps (now only if I can persuade DH on this).
Mine do the same...at least my teenagers do. They are 13 weeks old and are a bunch of chatter boxes. Oh and don't even get me started on my 6 week old Polishs'. They are the loudest chickens I have! Constant high pitch cheeping I have ever heard! I think like pp have said, they just want a...
Well, I have all of my different aged chickens mixed in my coop together. Some I don't know how old they are but old enough to have been laying for a year and then I have my teenagers that are about 13 weeks old. I have out medicated chicken mash and layer mash each in different feeders. I...
Yup, I have two of each in the attached run to my coop and one of each on the insdie of the coop. I bring in all the food out in the run in everynight. We have a major rat problem.
I put my chicks (age 4.5 wks) in the coop oustide during the day and bring them in at night - I'm a worry wart:D But when it's really hot outside, I bring them out in the AM only and bring them in the brooder in our house (soon to be nursery ) so they can just sorta chill out and take a...
