Back in June I bought some ten week old buff orpingtons. All our chickens went through a hard molt in late summer/early fall and then the days shortened. We never got eggs out of them. It's now spring and still nothing. The people we bought them from have been getting eggs from their batch...
In a row. My barred rock was broody for about a month before we gave up trying to deter her and gave her some eggs to hatch. Yesterday she was done and we put her back with the flock. Today I see she's back in the nest box acting all broody.
Can I put more eggs under her?
We have coturnix quail eggs in the incubator. Wednesday was supposed to be the hatch day. We heard peeping and saw movement the day before. It's now Friday and nothing. The temps and humidity have been all over the place, just not working right. They've been stable today though.
So...

So yesterday morning my husband decided to...
The guy I bought this chicken from said it was from his Ameraucana flock and that this one must have gotten crossed somewhere along the line. He also has a bunch of other breeds. Based on the comb I'm guessing this chicken did not come from an Ameraucana and also isn't an EE...so what was she...
My new chicks are from a blue australorp roo and black australorp hens. Some chicks are blue some are black. They all have black legs, pink foot tops and yellow foot bottoms. They also have yellow skin, earlobes and combs. The yellow is wrong isn't it? The moms have black legs/feet and the...
Reading the threads here really helped pass the time. I've been a little worried because the temp and humidity have been jumping all over the place but everyone seems to be hatching okay now.
Pics if you want to see them are here .
We brought home a new chicken. As soon as I let her out she flew straight over my head and into the bush (along a creek). She is in a dense thicket of thorny vines. My husband has been trying to catch her all week with no success. We have a trap out there and she's avoided it. He can't get...
I posted a week or so ago asking if these two were Ameraucanas (that's what the breeder told me). One poster said that they matched Ameraucanas except for the clean face. Well they are no longer clean faced so I'm assuming they are Ameraucanas? If you think they are easter eggers can you tell...
I've been getting a couple of double yolk eggs and someone decided to step up her game with a triple.
Out of curiosity what would happen if one of these was fertilized?
I have the pic posted on my blog.

We bought two chicks from a guy down the road. He said they are Ameraucana but there seems to be a common misconception about the labeling of these birds.
They are grey with a little bit of brown on the breast. Is the grey one in the photo Ameraucana, easter egger or something else? (the...
Meringue was laying under the coop, to one side when dh went to lock them up for the night. He picked her up and put her in the coop, where she flopped over.
I've noticed her sitting oddly yesterday and today, but have also seen her flying and walking around normally. He said she was walking...
I've been lurking for a long time and am finally registering now that I have a chicken coop almost completed in my backyard.
I'm looking to buy young hens for eggs. Preferably Easter Eggers, Orpingtons or Australorps. I'm located in the middle of the Annapolis Valley and am willing to send my...
