Oh Craigslist, You Amuse Me So!

I don't know how to post from Craig's List, but I just saw a Taxidermy mounted rooster located in Charlottesville, VA. It was posted about 6 hours ago. Hopefully someone could try to find it. It even has a picture and IMHO, it is really horrible. Looks like something flattened on the road...

    Blue eggs

The dark masses are usually chicks! Don't worry too much if you can't see too well. There isn't much you can do about it. Just wait for the hatch and sounds like you will be pleasantly surprised. If you find one that stinks, get rid of it. Good luck!

    Emergency, Help, Ricky Cant Breath

Can you see anything in his throat? Isolate him away from others and keep warm and quiet so you don 't make the breathing worse. This is often a very bad sign for the bird. Any other symptoms?

    Necropsy experience?

The lab in Warrenton, VA did not charge anything. They were actually very helpful with answering questions. I would test so you know what you are dealing with. Good luck!

    Sick Japanese Bantam

You may need a stronger antibiotic. Mine cleared up within a couple weeks. It might also be from a virus and therefore won't respond to antibiotics. Not sure if you can, but if you can get Baytril from a vet it can be more effective. If not, the penicillin g from the farm store might work...

    chicken scratch

Chicken scratch is usually cracked corn and sometimes another grain added to it. Chickens don't really "need" it, but it is something that they really LOVE to eat. We throw it on the ground in the run in the evening when we want to get them inside and ready to go in the coop for the night...

    Sick Japanese Bantam

Oops, sorry just now getting online today. A large fowl bird would need 0.5 cc ( 1/2 cc). You can treat a full 5 days if 3 doesn't seem to do it. Just one injection per day. Some of these things are a virus and sometimes it may not help. But worth a try. I do hope that it isn't contagious...

    Sick Japanese Bantam

I had a bird with very similar symptoms that responded very well to Tylan 50 injected just under the skin at the back of the neck. A bantam needs just 0.25cc (ml is the same as cc) . Treated her for 3 days and she got completely better. For sure keep her away from your other birds in case she...

    *Emergency* Severe breathing difficulties

Tylan 50 is available at most Farm supply stores. It is best given by injection just under the skin in the back of the neck. It is 0.5 cc for a full size chicken and I would dose for 5 days. Just keep in mind that many of theses illnesses are viral and may not get better with antibiotics...

Should I close my coop every night?

I would personally close it every night. There are more predators at night and there are many that have managed too get into the most secure runs. I wouldn't chance it. Just my opinion. Good luck either way.

    need some knowledge

Quote: X2 also search respiratory ilness on here and you will find lots of information. Most folks would not keep the sick birds because they will infect others. It's best to find out what killed the birds. Unfortunately, you could have several illnesses since the birds came from different...

Abandoned rooster, what should i look for Pics added

Quote: x2 a bird can look perfectly healthy and still be carrying an illness. Respiratory illness could be a huge concern for the rest of your flock. keep him separate and take care of him last in order to not bring germs over to your own birds. Also, kudos for having such a kind heart...
