Same temps here in Minnesota. The brahmas do just fine in it and my wyandottes and silkies too. No drafts and dry is the key. I do not supply any supplemental heat. I did keep them in their coop when it was windy as their run is still breezy even with the clear tarps we installed on it. Of...
easy to buy a few bottles of water and see if that makes a difference. Also can change feed to one made by a different manufacturer. Make one change at a time. If you make a bunch of changes all at once you won't know what the culprit is. Might also change your bedding.
Have you tried...
you should use 90-degree water for washing - too hot will carry bacteria into the egg. Washing removes the "bloom" which is a natural protective coating that seals the egg.
Be aware stall mats will block moisture & also trap moisture under the mats and can lead to bacteria growth.
I have cement floor in my coop and I use wood shavings on top of it. You can buy bags of livestock bedding shavings at feed stores, tractor supply, etc. They are easier to shovel out...
also organic apple cider vinegar. When I integrate new chicks to the flock, i wait till they are fully feathered. I have kept them in a pen with chicken wire separated them from the main flock (this way they can see and interact a little bit). Once they are feathered out I open a door between...
Kalmbach feeds are good - i feed the non-GMO version of it and it increased my egg production! I order it from Chewy.com as it is so handy to have it delivered for free.
Young chickens fly more. My mature Brahmas really don't fly at all, although they did when younger. I ended up putting a ramp on my roost so they could easily find a height. Ventilation should be high (near the roof ). Drafts are dangerous to chickens. I would put water (with a heater base)...
do you have an enclosed coop with an attached run? photos would help. My coop is sealed up tight against predators. So at night I lock the flock up (when most predators are out). My run is made of dog run panels and I bought some cheap bird netting for the top to keep predatory birds out (a...
She is limping quite bad for a week now. the foot looks normal (not bumble foot) - clean healthy, normal color skin. But, her outside toe joint (at the big, base joint,) is either dislocated or non-existent. She limps quite badly on it and is not getting better. I don't see any way to splint...
