Curled toes are genetic in favs. I have bred favs for 8 years. You must cull them out or it comes back to haunt you. I did the shoe thing in the beginning and it did more harm in the long run. If you want the birds for pets, etc. then it is fine, but for breeding...not so much!

Sebrights are not noted for laying ability, and often regardless of when they are hatched they do not lay until the following breeding season. Its not unheard of for them to go a few weeks then and then stop and not lay until the next breeding seasons. Usually the roosters combs turn red way...

I live in Watkins Glen, NY and have salmon faverolles hens and roosters in bantams, 2008 and 2009.

I think its a frizzle cochin hen.

The quills to the feathers coming up will shed little white pieces that look like dandruff. I would expect that is what it is. Chickens skin peels and flakes like everything elses does, especially when new feathers come in.

Guinea hens will clear the 6 foot fence with no problem. Mine used to roost on the roof to our house. I don't think diatomaceous earth will help with ticks.

I hatched out seven sebright chicks and 5 favs over the weekend. Two of the sebrights had a wierd thing where they put the top of their head on the ground and kind of spun around on it. To move they flapped their wings which they kept way out from their bodies and kind of paddled backwards...
