Found a lost chicken, mild concern for her health

Sorry for the late reply! She's doing very well! Still panting and wing drooping sometimes but less often. She's very active and wants to wander, I wish I could let her out of her quarantine pen! At least she won't have to stay there for too long haha. No luck finding the owner so far (though...

Found a lost chicken, mild concern for her health

My friend found a hen wandering the streets in town two days ago. He's searching around in hopes of finding the owner, and in the meantime I'm looking after her because I have many years of chicken experience and if we can't find her home, she can live with my flock after a quarantine. She...

7 week old polish - can you identify gender yet?

Yeah it's hard getting a proper picture, but so far the comb is fairly small and yellow, and the crest rounded. Thanks for giving me pointers on what to look out for! I'll give it more time then, and update once it becomes clearer!

7 week old polish - can you identify gender yet?

Alright I'm finally home and got a picture! There isn't much comb to see, it's pretty small still and mostly covered by feathers, I tried moving the feathers so you can see but my chickie didn't like holding still that long!

7 week old polish - can you identify gender yet?

Title pretty much says it all. I've never raised a breed with crests before so this is very new to me! I'm currently out of town but I get home by tomorrow so if you need closer pictures I can take them then.

    Strange Chick Feathers

Guess I'll keep an eye on her/him and see how it goes!

    Strange Chick Feathers

Here's Violet, a Polish chick who's likely about 3 weeks old (that's how long I've had her at least). I noticed her feathers this morning and I've never seen anything like this? I have one other Polish chick and her feathers are completely normal (and much more developed, but they could be...

Urgent - hen with swollen mouth

Update! I've been treating my hen with fish zole for a few days. She's very skinny but still alive, so I can only assume she's been eating. She doesn't go after her grain, but will peck at bread and other scraps I toss to the chickens. So her appetite's barely increased and the yellow lumps have...

Urgent - hen with swollen mouth

I ordered some but it could take up to a week to arrive, so I'm gonna look for it at the pet store today. I got a picture of my hen. This is the best picture I could take without help holding her, but I can confirm there is a cheesy-looking yellow lump on the inside of her mouth as well.

Urgent - hen with swollen mouth

Ahhh, I researched canker and it seems to be my hen's exact problem word for word. There are no vets in my area that treat chickens unfortunately. What sort of stores could I find fish zole at? I can order it online, but I worry it will take too long to arrive.

Urgent - hen with swollen mouth

I noticed one of my Brahma hens has stopped eating and drinking much in the past few days so I took a closer look and found that one side of her face has some strange swelling. The skin around the corner of her mouth up to part of the beak has become almost bubbly-looking lumps that are hard to...

    Hen with a swollen bottom

Is there anything I can do about that? (Sorry I didn't reply until now--bad internet connection.)

    Hen with a swollen bottom

This is Luna, my three-year-old black sex link. As the title says, she has a very swollen bottom, and has had it for quite a while. Every time I've heard of this happening due to an egg-laying problem, it came on somewhat suddenly, but Luna has been swollen for probably a month or more. She...

Not sure where these markings came from!

All of the chicks my chickens have hatched over the years are crossed from two or three breeds and it's just interesting to see what beautiful color and pattern combinations hatch on my farm. And last year we got one that was particularly interesting. One of my older hens hatched two chicks last...

    Sick Parakeet

If he starts looking worse, I might take him to the vet, but generally that's the last option since vets are so pricey. Pigeon is looking a bit better and wanted to be let out of his cage. He's not as fluffed up as before, though he's still sneezing. But he is looking a little less droopy and...

    Sick Parakeet

Luckily I'm going into town tomorrow morning and there's a farm store and pet store there, so I'll be sure to check for antibiotics and buy some while I'm out there. I separated the birds for now, and moved Pigeon upstairs to a bedroom where it's warmer and quieter than the rest of the house...

    Sick Parakeet

Not poultry of course, but still a bird health emergency, so I figured this is the right place to post it. This morning, I found that one of my parakeets is acting strangely, and definitely looks sick. I have two parakeets, Blue and Pigeon. Blue was being her usual self, climbing around and...

What to do for wounded hen while I'm away... I need advice today!

Recently I did bumblefoot surgery on one of my hens. Whenever I changed her bandages in the days afterward, I saw that her healing was going really well. When I did the surgery, the area where the bumble was, in between her toes, was very swollen, but gradually it was shrinking down to normal...

What on earth is my rooster doing?

At least three times this week now, my rooster Charlie has herded or led all my hens out of their pen, scolding and snapping at any hen that goes back in. He's normally not aggressive towards the hens like this, so it's a bit odd. Today he went into the pen to scold a hen who had gone in to get...

I think this chick is half Silkie, but I'm not sure...

Sorry I wasn't able to get to you for so long! My computer was having problems with this website. I've confirmed that little Penguin is half Silkie. The feathers on his legs are getting longer, and he resembles my Silkie rooster more every day. Here's an old picture of him (he's the chick on...
