I was going to post the same question. I have 6 hens and one of my Barred Rocks is really naked and it's getting cold out. They are about 18 months old now. I hope she grows some new feathers soon before she freezes.
Boy do I love having fresh eggs and my friends love them too. So this year will be the first year I have had CX's (about 25) and my layers (6 of them) at the same time. Can I house them together? Or should I try to keep them separate?
Thanks in advance
Eric
Good idea, I'll find something that looks like eggs and try that. Maybe Walmart has some easter eggs left. The coop is fairly well lit so there aren't any shadows.
They started laying about 3 weeks ago. I think only 2 are laying so far. We get 2 eggs every other day or so and so far two...
Hi all
I have layers this year for the first time and so far we love the eggs. Fresh eggs are so much better.
But, they lay eggs all over the coop but never in the 2 nest boxes I put in the coop. I have a coop that is 8 x 12, 6 hens and I use shavings and there is a bale of hay in there...
Hi Folks
I have about 22 cornish X's that will be 4 weeks old this week. Something I notices is almost all of them have a large lump on the right side of their necks. What could this be? I had the same birds last yea and didn't notice this.
Thanks
Eric
Has anyone come up with a feed to finish the Cornish X's before slaughter that they feel made them taste better? Last year I finished on mostly corn and they were great. Just looking for other's ideas.
Thanks
Eric
Well yesterday was a real bummer. It was warm in the coop, almost 95, 3 fans going and the little buggers filled the waterers with the fresh pine shaving and blocked them up so they couldn't get water. 15 dead birds, I am so upset. They must have been kicking the shavings around because they...

40 birds and one orphan layer, going to her new home soon. Then 15 meaties leaving soon so I'll be down to my 25.
here is my quick math
But, I did not do this for the money, but to have good quality chicken that I know what they were fed, etc., not a money saving venture at all.
I have 25 Cornish X's from Purely Poultry (great vendor)
I paid $1.40 per bird (5 of us ordered 116 birds so shipping was...
Well all 116 birds arrived today and are in great shape. Five of us got together and ordered. My share is 25 meat birds.
I'm helping a friend get started as they do not have electric for the lamps. So here are 40 meaties and 5 Buff Orpingtons. The turkeys and others went home already...
Is this scale ok or should I find one that has a smaller range and can weight in oz as well?
