    Free rangeing

Hi, I have not posted in a while so here it goes. I have a flock of 2 roosters, 5 hens and 3 chicks. The 2nd rooster was bought as a hen. They are kept in a 7x12ft pen with all walls/roof covered but the front and a side wall. Thier coop is a small box in the back. I was wondering if my flock...

    hen first clutch

I posted a message about my only hen I was trying to get her to sit on the eggs. Finally she has done it! Shes always in the box. Unfortunately I only have 1 pair left. I know that ratio is horrible for breeding but it use to be much more hens before we had our skunk invasion. I will be...

    Napco Incubators?

Hi, I recieved a large NAPCO incubator. Like the kind commercial growers, or larger farms would use to hatch chicks. It may have been for growing bacteria??? Not sure since it also has a CO2 gage and tubeing for a connection to a bottle. Either way it would work for either purpose. Anyway, I...

    Wanting to try broody?

Ive incubated eggs in the past, and was thinking of trying with a broody with my currently 11 eggs. I have not taken any from the nest and I think she stopped at 11 ( is that to many?). I am not sure if she is sitting on them tho. Shes in and out throughout the day. How do I ensure that she...

    Legality?

I eventually would like to sell my chicks locally or online to even other states. This would be done small scale of course with probably 6-8 hens laying. I would also like to sell the fresh eggs to healthfood stores and other small grocery stores if possible. Is there any legal issues I need...

    Help????

Ok here it is, I had 14 eggs that did not hatch ( some older than others) so I thought I messed up cause I decided on rolling them all instead of turning them one by one when incubating. Extra chicks?

    Messengers?

Can any pigeon be used for messengers/carrier, or a specific breed? I dont want to buy pegions that will just fly away. I'd like a bird that can fly freely around the yard/pasture and will return if released afew miles away. Also, how far can you release a pegion and it still returns?

I have thought about obatining 1 or 2 pigeons to be pets, but I want to fully understand the entier aspects to keeping these birds. I would like to have messanger pigeons. ( speifically) 1. I have heard that you can keep them in a loft and allow them to fly freely. Is this true? if so...

I moved 14 of them out of the green house ( where I raised them) into the seperated pen inside the coop. ( I lost 1...

    today's tragedy

I hatched 12 chicks out before christmas and they have been fully feathered for 3 weeks now so about 7weeks old. I decided to introduce them to the flock. They seemed to be fine until later today I found one dead by the door of the pen and about half of the 11 remaining bleeding from their...

    Outside??

When can I move the chicks outside into the coop? I can make a small coop with a light in it to keep them warm at night. None have broodies.
