This "Worm Off" is the same as Wazine, just in tablet form, and I'm sure the strength might be a little different. It says to use one tablet per 4 lbs. body weight. I don't have anywhere to buy Wazine, nor do I want to wait for it to come in the mail if I order it. I thought I would follow it...
I have a hen with a worm problem, and since there are no stores near me who carry chicken wormer, I have to order it from online. I did at one point in the past, so I do have a bottle of "Worm Off" which are tablets of Piperazine. But I'm wondering how to actually get the tablet into the...
This is the second hen we have with these symptoms. The first one ended up dying about 3 months ago, this one seems like it is headed that way any day now as well. They start out being lethargic, sleeping a lot standing up, comb flopping over and going pale. The first time this lasts about...
Purchased some hatching eggs from a BYC seller, and she added in 2 eggs from her bantam crosses. Those hatched out as roosters, and we have enough around here! Very pretty, one is black with gold overtones, the other is cream with black overtones. They are about 8 - 9 weeks old now, and will...
My kids are entering a few of our chickens into a local fair. My question is what is the difference between show quality and production quality? I'm sure we only have production quality, but wanted to find out the difference anyway. Also, do people bathe their chickens before a show, and if...
I have the 2 roosters in with 18 hens. They are very rough with the girls, a lot rougher than our last rooster. I'll keep a look out to see if I see them going for the top of the head, and also check for mites/lice. Thanks!
Just noticed yesterday that within my mixed flock, most of my Dominiques are missing a lot of feathers at the tops of their head. If they were a human, it would qualify as male pattern baldness. Not sure if this is some type of disease (or mites, etc.) or if it's something the rooster is...
Yes, my bantam rooster wakes me up constantly if the windows are open, and he is about 150 feet from the house closed in a coop. He's very loud and crows all day long. Much more than my standard roosters. Just cause they're small, doesn't mean they're quieter (unfortunately)!
I tried the warm water thing. I didn't see any noticeable movements. They did float, but I think the movements I did see were just vibrations from people/animals walking around in the house.
We have 3 eggs left in the incubator. Tonight starts day 24. I'm pretty sure these won't hatch, and decided to candle before tossing to be sure. Can't figure it out though. There are 2 whose egg sacs looked normal and there was movement on day 18, now their air sac is huge, almost 1/3 of the...
My incubator, a still air, dropped significantly in degrees when I took out the egg turner 3 days ago. I got it back up to temp, which took several hours of slow modifications so I wouldn't over-cook the eggs. Then this morning 3 had hatched out, and the temp dropped again. i thought it was...
I won't ask what you are going to do with him if you won't tell me! This 16 week rooster was hatched from our own eggs. Dad was a Buff Orpington, mom was a Dominique. This guy is very pretty - black and orange with barred markings across him. He's very aggressive towards the hens and I just...
Yesterday and today were the first warm days here in weeks. We reached 80 today. The last 2 weeks have been rainy and fairly cold for June - highs in the upper 50's - 60's. Everything is so soggy. Heat is definitely not the problem! But it was a good idea!
I have a flock of 16 laying hens. They just turned a year old. Last fall I was getting 14, sometimes 16 eggs a day. Now I'm lucky if I get 10. Most days I get 6-8. What's going on? They had a rooster in with them who we just got rid of (was too big for the hens and really tearing them up)...
I thought the same thing - difference in height. I put in the lid of a peanut butter jar to raise the thermometer to the same height it was at. The temp raised a bit - maybe to 90. I got a second thermometer and the temp was close to 90 too, so I had to adjust. When I went to bed it was at...
Still air incubator - I just took the egg turner out, added more warm water, and checked the temp. It was a little low, so I waited a while thinking the water might have needed to come up to temp a bit more. It's now been almost an hour and the temp is very low. With the egg turner in there...
Great idea, thanks! How long does it take for the antibiotics to leave their systems? Is it gone the day after I stop giving it or does it take a few days or a week?
