!! POWER OUTAGE Suggestion to all hatchers !!

Lately I have been thinking that I wanted to invest in a computer battery backup to hookup to the incubator when it's on. Some are expensive, but some are decently priced.

    Egg turner not working!!!

Fabulous hatch! The whole family was here on Easter to watch, it was quite the entertainment! I had 15 eggs, this morning I have 12 chicks. The other three eggs are not pipped, but I'll give them another day to see if they do. At this point it was an 80% hatch - so that is a pretty good number...

How do you clean an incubator?

I was wondering what I could use to clean my Genesis styrofoam bator this season, as it has been used a few years now and was starting to look pretty cruddy. No amount bleach was really helping it LOOK clean. Well, I am also a home brewer, and while cleaning my kegs I got a brilliant idea. I...

    Egg turner not working!!!

It's working, Yay! Last night I candled the eggs and they seem fine...actually almost too dark to see anything the eggs are so full. I didn't see any blood rings! I put the turner back in and it is definitely working now. So hopefully, I'll hear some chirping soon.

    Egg turner not working!!!

I will definitely let you know what happens. I took the turner out and have been manually turning them today (and will until Friday.) We are trying to figure out if it's working or not. The arm seems to be moving, but it doesn't seem to be turning the trays. Which is weird, it's not hung up or...

    Egg turner not working!!!

Thanks for crossing your fingers for me!! These will be miracle chickens, so far it has been an uphill battle. I started with 42 eggs and I am down to only 15 that were fertile. The power has also gone out twice during the time the incubator has been going. Sheesh! Luckily we were here and got...

    Egg turner not working!!!

I am on day 17 of my incubation; my chicks should hatch Sunday and just today I realized that my egg turner is not 'turning' - the motor is going, it's making noise, but it's not turning. What are the chances for these chickies?!?

How do you keep your Chickens warm in the winter? No elec/insulation

How many chickens are going to be in the coop? We are in Maine and we don't heat our coop. It's insulated with foam insulation and there are 35 chickens out there - that many birds heat the coop just fine all winter. Mine also go outside all winter because we snow blow their yard for them, which...

Day 17 and a couple of eggs are already rocking....

Day 17 and a couple of eggs are already rocking.... What should I do? I have an automatic egg turner in there and it's day 17, but I have two eggs that are rocking. I am torn as to whether to take them off the turner today or just sit tight and wait. Lord knows I can't wait for baby chicks!!!

    First hatch! (pics)

Ooooooh!!! They are so cute! I can't wait to see what hatches out of mine. (March 31st!) I can't believe how dark that last one is! I am sure that last one, if it came from a maran egg, is a mix between my golden cuckoo hen and one of my 'black' blue laced roos. I love that little guy; I am very...

Backyard Blue Laced Red Wyandotte Mixes

This is for 12+ eggs from my mixed flock. Some of these eggs will be full blue laced eggs, because my roosters are mostly blue laced but I do have a golden cuckoo maran rooster as well. The mutts should be adorable and if genetics play a role - my roosters are all sweet. We handle them a lot and...

12+ available - Backyard Mix (Blue Laced Red Wyandottes)

Thanks for the compliments on the flock everyone! I love them, so it's nice to hear I'm not just biased. My husband and I talked about setting up for separating the blue laced so I have a question...would you rather have the splash roosters or the black blue laced fertilize the eggs?

12+ available - Backyard Mix (Blue Laced Red Wyandottes)

Regarding the setup, they are all out there together. I can collect just those breeds, but they are still mixed - with the exception of some will be full blue laced. The golden cuckoo maran could possibly be full GCM also, but more than likey her eggs were fertilized by a blue laced.

12+ available - Backyard Mix (Blue Laced Red Wyandottes)

Yes! He is a black laced red wyandotte...I have two of them, my younger one has better color but the one pictured here is the greatest rooster ever. So sweet, so good to the girls, a great watchdog...he earns his keep, that's for sure. Then I have 3 more splash BLRW roos (one is behind the GC...

12+ available - Backyard Mix (Blue Laced Red Wyandottes)

Anyone else? I am willing to collect more! For the most part these are not pure eggs, they are mutt eggs with the exception of some will probably be full blue laced red wyandottes. My roos are mostly blue laced red wyandottes - I do have a golden cuckoo maran roo, too, but he's not real...
