Thanks! Okay, so they look to be August 25th.... so 16 days old. I think I read someone else on this thread had some success with 16 day old eggs. Worth a shot for $3 I suppose....
I have a broody hen but no rooster. She constantly lays on the eggs that she and others have laid and I felt so bad taking the eggs from her. Discovered everyone's idea of buying fertilized chicken eggs at the grocery store, and after much calling around found them at Whole Foods in...
Thanks for the eggblowing advice! I'm not sure I have the lungs to blow this puppy out, but I'll give it a shot.
This chicken lays normal sized eggs and then every other week comes out with a wopper. This is the biggest one yet. Shes the biggest chicken and definitely the queen hen of the...
Wow! One of my black sex-links laid a huge egg! It's over 4 inches long and 6 1/4 inches around! Poor thing! My husband says we should mount it like a trophy trout ha ha. I know you can blow out the egg from within the shell, but I'm not sure how to do it. I'll see if I can figure out how...
Just found out that the hen is a rooster. Started to crow this morning. Doesn't fly to good with the neighboors. Free to good home. I live in Woodinville, WA just outside of Seattle.
HI fellow washingtonian! I put my birds who are now 7 weeks old, out to the coop last weekend and they are doing just fine. I have a fenced in run and a small 4x2 hen house that they go in at night. I moved the heat lamp with a 100 watt bulb into the hen house to keep them warm at night, but...
Thanks so much guys! You are all so helpful! Seems like my chicken hutch is getting down graded more and more ha ha.....first it was going to be classy siding that we would have to stain and cedar shingles on the roof. (This was my husband's idea not mine ) Then he switched to asphalt...
My husband is in the final stages of building our chicken hutch and is ready to paint the outside of the hutch. It is made of marine grade plywood. The hutch will be outdoors in a fenced in chicken run. Any ideas what kind of paint we should get to use? Is a water based exterior house paint...
Thank you for the info! If i decide to get a 5 gallon waterer, do you think that would be adequate for a week? Our summers do not get very warm here and they will be in the shade most of the time....so I don't think they are risk of overheating.....
Hi guys! I'm ready to go out and get a feeder and waterer from the local store and was unsure what size I needed for my 4 hens. I want to get a size that I would be able to leave them enough feed and water should we go on vacation for a week. what do you think? I think I might try buying...
Yeah, that's a good idea to use a power washer. The gravel isn't really tiny so I don't think they'd be able to eat to much of it..... Do you think I need to disinfect it with bleach solution?
Hey guys! I just joined a few days ago and thought I'd ask you experts about our chicken run that has a gravel on the ground. We moved into this house a year ago and the previous owners had built a chicken run or pen with gravel covering the ground. Has anyone ever tried this? It seems like...
Thanks for the advice (and welcome). So, probably the only draft-free area would be the hutch itself since the pen is just all chicken wire on all sides. That is okay? They'll just stay in the hutch if it becomes to windy?
Hi. I'm new here and I was hoping you all could answer a few questions for me regarding what the temperature needs to be before a chicken can go outside. I just bought my 4 chicks on sunday and they are in their rubbermaid brooder with a heat lamp overhead. The gentleman who helped me at the...
