We've recently been letting our 5.5week-7week olds out to play in the warm afternoons. However our run is just bare dirt/old grass. They seem to like it but I feel like they'd enjoy a little better run material. I keep reading about what to use for the coop base (we're trying out the deep...
We currently have 22 chicks - most are 7 weeks old today, but two are 6 weeks old today and four are 5 weeks, 4 days old.
We moved them out to their coop with heat a week ago, and I'm assuming that at least 2 of the babies are roos. However I'm wondering if we'll be able to even hear the...
Silkies grey ones are 40 days old, the other 4 are 30 days old:
Bliss (Black) & Splash were told these are Black & Splash silkies. Def are not. Dont know what they are and I *hope* at least one is a girl
Sasha only one that is really looking like a silkie, but think its a HE...
Chicks at 40 Days Old! Now they are in the new coop, no more glamour shots (see my BYC page) but I tried to get pics of everyone separately. I have some questions about gender/breed for some of the silkies so if you have comments on them please let me know what you think!

Chicks have moved into the coop!!
Here they are checking the place out (spare chain is for a 2nd heat lamp). We have a camera in here to remotely check on them, which I do about once per hour all day long hehe
Bye-bye brooder (IE: HELLO CLEAN BASEMENT!!)
Hi - I have a GC "pullet" who might have a gender identity issue..."she" is growing quite the comb. I am worried that it's a HE and am hoping to see some 5-week old (approx) pics of your Golden Campines!
Thx!
We noticed that our one GC pullet, Gwen, has quite the comb coming in. She has always been very flighty and I never doubted that she was a SHE until we were taking pics yesterday and noticed the comb has really started to come in a bit pinker than some of the other chickens. She was 4 weeks, 5...
I bought Splash along with her siblings Bliss, Sasha, & Sammy at 1 day old. S/he is definitely a bantam, and we saw the silkie coop all black & white silkies mixed. Sasha & Sammy look to be white silkies (though Sammys skin coloring is off and her feathers are coming in much slower than...
We have finally ALMOST finished the coop & Run!! Painted it this weekend and built the run. All that is left is making the skirt we have some ½ in hardware cloth thats 40 wide and it is going to go around the coop and run
Here are some pics (to see all pics of the progression, visit My BYC...
Updated pics of our flock Day 33 (older ones are now 4 weeks, 5 days old; Welsummers are 3 weeks, 5 days old, and the baby silkies are 3 weeks, 2 days old)
If you want to see more pics of these babies, visit My BYC Page!

I'm back with some updated pics!! Pictures shown here are from about 1 week ago and 1 day ago (2 separate ages - I'll place the breeds together so you can see the difference a week makes!!)

Without further ado-
Easter Eggers Ellie & Emma...
We have 6 straight-run silkie chicks currently. Assuming a nice 50/50 split, we'll just say that I will have 1 Grey Roo, 1 Grey Pullet, 1 White Roo, 1 White Pullet, 1 Black Roo, 1 Splash Pullet.
If we make a dedicated silkie pen for these chickens, what sort of color combinations would we be...
I thought Cedar could be very harmful towards chickens? Looking at this as an add-on/Silkie coop -

I'll have to get close up pics of my 2 14 day old BO's (supposed to be pullets). Both already have combs coming in, way more quickly than any of the other breeds we have (not to mention, they are larger than all our other breeds). For pics, see my BYC page, but I don't have close ups.
Just...
Come see my coop!! My dog Annie was a big help...hehe

Plan is to add an attached run that's totally predator proof, and then let them free-range when we are home in the afternoons. One of the 2 doors we closed up actually still opens...
Here are some pics of our original 16 chicks at 12 days old, plus our newest additions - 2 Welsummer Chicks (seen here at 2 days and 5 days old, and 4 silkies (2 white, 1 splash, 1 black) at 2 days old!! We added these 6 over the weekend. What fun! Everyone gets along and we were pretty nervous...
Not sure where to post this ??
I have 2 grey silkies that are currently 8 days old. I keep reading about how docile silkies are, but these two are more afraid of us than most of the others (for example, when we visit the brooder, the BO's, SLW, EE's all run forward to say hi and check us out...
So, looks like in addition to the 16 you'll see below, we're going to be adding 2 Welsummer chicks, 2 RIR's, and 2 White Silkies hopefully over the weekend. What fun!!
Here are the 4 day old pics next to the 1 week old pics so you can see any difference! Let's begin!!

I keep swaying back and forth between cancelling my replacement shipment from Ideal this week. Currently we have 16 healthy, lively chickens. 7 Died and 2 were sent incorrectly (supposed to be columbian wyandottes, we were sent GLW).
Ideal offered to ship new babies out THIS WEEK - ie poor...
