i lost Masie last night, neighbors dog chased her and despite calling for two and half hours she didn't come home. i even slept outside the coop door hoping she'd come back.
has anyone had a chicken come home after a night out?
i've been missing my father,
he's been gone a little longer than six months now
today i went to my parent's house and saw the shagbark hickory
he planted from the nut we found is holding it's own
and i was happy and sad
and imagine my surprise to check on my two broody hens
who i've been...
hi
i'm trying to find home for ray, the self-blue and the other splash and the two dark blues in this picture.
they're free, come and pick them up or let's work out a place to meet
ray is absolutely terrific he like to be picked up and petted, but just found his voice
pm me for information...
sounded like a teenager whose voice was changing.
seriously though, i live pretty close to my neighbors and want to keep them happy, so i'm planning to send up the obvious males to be "processed" next week up the hill.
here are the particulars: they're bbs orpingtons, they're 14 weeks old, i...
i have a nice big coop and a connected run that is accessed through a little connector
but my chicks don't seem interested in heading out to the run, i've put them in the connector and coaxed them to run only to come back out and they're all in the coop again
i don't suppose it hurts anything...
i've got the coop to a stopping point,
same with the run, all except for the apron
but i'm tired now and want to take a break to spend more time with my dog who has been incredibly patient during the construction
i'd like to know if i could use sheets of metal roofing for my apron in place...
i came home after work and found one of my fifteen seven week old bbs orpingtons dead
i searched around for how a predator could have gotten in and then back out
and could not see any likely spots
she's was missing a lot of feathers, but not chewed up
and four or more of the others have spots...
well they're in
i'm not quite finished yet, but here are the fifteen chicks in their coop.

it's about eighty square feet so i can ultimately have eight chickens over the winter
the lumber yard gave me a heck of a deal on 5/8" advantec t+g sheathing
i was going to use it in some locations, painted, as an interior finish.
from working on LEED projects, i know that advantec has no urea formaldehyde, but i wonder who else has used it and what their experience with it is...
hi.
i have two nearly five week old black (maybe blue) orpingtons that don't have feathers between their wing feathers, they don't have any fluff there either. it's just two out of fifteen, none of the others look like these two.
has anyone seen this before?
hi.
i'm lucky enough to have several locations where i could locate my chicken coop but am having trouble choosing one and would like input from those of you with experience.
first i'm in the northern half of vermont; second my goal is to have no electric power in my coop.
here's a...
took my four four-week old chicks outside today to explore temperatures were in the sixties and there were many patches of lawn between all the snow
one of my little guys took off under the porch.
i took the other chicks back in then i went in after her, crawling on my tummy in the mud, and...
hi
i have a chick that was born this morning that can't stand
at first it seemed the problem was his toes were curled up
i put band-aids (adhesive part) at top and bottom and now the toes are in the right position
but he still can't stand.
i have the band-aids around his legs as if he has...
i woke up this morning to one chick and three pips but humidity had dropped into the mid-fifties.
the last two nights i woke up in the middle of the night to check on the humidity level, it didn't drop, that's why i didn't wake up to check i last night.
i promptly added warm water via a liquid...
hi everyone
i'm about at the halfway point on my second hatch. i'm using a hovabator 1602N with a fan and am hand-turning twenty-two bbs orpington eggs. i'm trying lower humidity levels for the first eighteen days of the hatch, my question is about maintaining higher humidity levels during...
