Not really duck related but need some fingers crossed for me!

My hubby and I have been looking for a new, bigger place for us, the kids, the dog and the ducks (thinking about adding chickens and goats too LoL)....we were offered a place with some acerage (already fenced in), a coop already built, and a barn that would be just PERFECT for us. Lots of room...

    Saxony duckling color differences *pics*

My little ducklings are absolutely darling! Two of thm are darker than the other three though, having dark lines along the eyes and down the back with a darker beak..it has me wondering: is this a gender thing? I got some pictures but they don't show the differences as dramatically as you can...

Hatch of saxonys due in a week...one quick question

Well all, all 6 of the eggs I put in the incubator are still developing beautifully! I've been checking them once a week for progress and I looked today, all of them have perfect aircell sizes and plenty of movement..BUT! One seems a bit more eager than the rest LoL I could clearly see egg #4...

Ughh something got my duckling :-(

I started putting my ducklings outside at about 10 days ago I think...bringing them inside when I wasn't home to keep an eye on them (the youngest was 4 weeks old and the two older ones about 6 weeks). Well, I fell asleep on the couch with a pounding migrane, woke up and went to feed them only...

    Growing up too fast

We officially moved the babies out of the brooder and into their home outside...and they are having a grasshopper feast! We have an infestation of them so as far as I'm concerned they can have at em! And the 6 saxony duck eggs I put in the incubator (thanks to The Duck ABCs) are ALL...

    Humidity issues

As a lot of you know I'm prepping for another hatch and I just bought a new hygrometer...I calibrated it last night (using the salt-mixutre method) and all was fine. So today I cleaned the incubator, put a little water in the canals (about 1/4 of each) in the bottom and turned it on. I just...

    Hygrometers

    Saxony or Khaki ducks?

Okay we decided the urge to hatch again is just too strong to ignore LoL We are really drawn to the Saxony and the Khaki ducks because of their aesthetic appeal and are trying to decide betwen the two. So could somebody tell me a little bit about the temperment and the hatching conditions that...

    Duck Breeds

We had planned on getting another set of hatching eggs after this group hatched so that once they started breeding we didn't necessarily have the problem of imbreeding but after the stress of it all we decided to just get ducklings. We haven't a clue what breed this little guys are as they came...

    Still attached to the egg

The three ducklings that finally hatched last night still have one very tiny peice connecting their "umbilical cord" to the egg...I planned on leaving them in there to dry out but it is starting the smell really terribly and I'm concerned about bacteria. Should I go ahead and finish detaching...

    It's hatching day!!

OK I've managed to keep my hand out of the cookie jar so to speak the last few days, which was not easy considering all 5 of my ducklings had pipped interally about 3 1/2 days ago..but I kept myself busy and I think it was the best decision because I was woken up all night long with peeps and...

    Hatching duck eggs.... internal pip?

Let me start by saying that I have been peeping around (pun intended) this forum for the last four weeks or so and have found it incredibly informative! You all are a fantastic group of people! Anyway, growing up we hatch ducklings all the time and I remember loving it so now that I have two...
