Hi all
I just noticed my speckled sussex hen who is about 3 ½ has a huge extra toe growing out above her 4th toe in back. It is only on one leg and seems mostly hard like a nail. She has always been weird. Doesn’t seem to see bugs like her sister. Gets broody. Is very stand offish.
any thoughts...
My 3 speckled sussex chickens haven’t laid an egg since mid September. They had a mild molt in September but have long since grown their feathers back. I wormed them in October. Supported them nutritionally with extra protein during the molt. I feed them Purina organic l’arena pellets. They have...
My last chicken probably died from a mouse transmitted disease, so I was determined to try and make a watered and feeding system that would keep them safe.
The horizontal nipples don’t leak and your chickens will definitely figure it out. This is the best way to keep rodent pee and droppings...
I have 4 speckled Sussex hens that are 22 weeks old. I realize that with the shorter days they may not lay soon, but I’m getting impatient. My other SS hens had laid when they were 19 weeks. How much longer do you think it will be? We are at 11 hours of sunlight now. But in Hawai‘i even in June...
I have 4 week old speckled Sussex chicks. I moved them up to the coop a couple of days ago. They sleep all piled together. I have gone out and placed them on the roost several times during the evening but they always end up in a pile. They will sit on the roost during the day. But not at night...
The girls have had mites since the end of July. I'm covered with bites that itch like crazy. And I know that chicken mites aren't supposed to bother people, but something is eating me. I've sprayed the coop and nest box out, used neem oil on everything , bathed the girls, then dusted them and...
Oh definitely pullets last year. This was their first hard molt. Guess they are taking the winter off! How about that.
Thanks everyone for your help. These are my first chickens.
No lights. And all their feathers have grown in. Here in Hawaii we never get more than 13 hours of daylight and currently it is 10 1/2. But last year, I was still getting eggs during December.
My girls are still getting their feathers back after molting and the shells are quite thin still. But they have also gone from a light brown color to nearly white? Why would this be? Any ideas?
They have constant access to oyster shell with their grit and they are fed purina's omega 3 layer...
I am a new chicken owner. My 2 girls are speckled sussex and have been laying about a year now. I feed them omega 3 layer feed. They also have constant access to grit with oyster shell calcium which they eat. And they are out in the yard eating bugs, grass and taking dirt baths a couple of...
