    Splash Silkie recognized color

I was looking up Partidge Silkie to see if it was accepted and stumbled on this thread. According to the "recognized breeds" link on the website for the American Poultry Association, the splash color is only recognized in bearded silkies and was accepted in 2001. It is not listed as an...

    Look at the babies!!!!!! :D

I have a friend who sort of half jokingly offered me one or both of her chins a couple days ago. I'm a science teacher and wouldn't mind having them in my classroom. HOWEVER, I have some concerns. Do I need to worry about allergies with my students? Are a lot of people allergic to them...

    Bantam Duck Page

I know exactly how you feel! We've had terrible luck with shipping this Spring. Our first chick order arrived all dead. It was awful. The hatchery shippped again and we lost half of them on the way. I was horrified. I tried a different hatchery for our turkeys and had the same nasty...

Guess what I find IN my coop!!!

We often wonder why we buy different kind of food for our critters. The ducks eat the dog food, the dog eats the layer mash. The donkeys will also eat the dog food and the chickens like the sheep feed. Go figure! I don't know how close you are to a butcher, but a big ol' beef bone...

What else to do for bottle lambs

We've just given ours hay to nibble on. They aren't really going to eat substantial grain and hay for a while. You can get one of those horse toy balls or a dog toy to entertain them. I assume they have a fairly small pen inside. We usually take ours out for 20 minutes or so to run around...

How many Lambs? & looking for advice, 1st time lambing.

I'm guessing two... but small ones. Swing by Rural King or TSC and see if you can get some lamb milk replacer to have on hand. ALSO... they have some nipples that fit on 20 oz pop bottles. They are yellow at the bottom with red pointy nipples. Those seem to work the best for us. We...

I'm loving the 6-chick minimum at TSC!!

We decided to be "responsible this year and just order the 25 chicks we wanted from Murray McMurray. They're cute as anything. So.... went to pick up feed the other day at Rural King and came home with 6 cochin bantams. We just HAD to stop and check to see if TSC had turkeys and picked up 6...
